46 It was 5:30 PM when J.J. called Zach. “Are you at the lodge?” he asked, pulling into the drive, the bed of the truck and the front seat loaded with boxes of groceries. “I’m the only one here,” Zach answered, placing the dust cloth and polish back inside the tote. “Then meet me around back.” Zach replaced the cleaning tote inside the supply closet, then went through the lobby to the kitchen, where he opened the door. J.J. was just backing the truck up to the steps of the veranda. While groceries were stored, Zach shared the outcome of his earlier conversation with Carli. “If that’s the way Carli feels, perhaps she’ll give me a raise, too.” J.J. tossed the empty boxes into the bed of the truck.
