After pictures were taken, the ground that had absorbed the blood that drained from the animal was doused with what remained in the five-gallon water containers the poachers had brought with them in the hopes that the diluted smell would deter other scavengers. He called the lodge and requested that Zach and the elk be picked up, since both county vehicles would be crowded with those who were placed under arrest and their firearms.
