Determined to enjoy herself, and believing that the convict on the loose wouldn’t endanger himself enough to try to approach her at the End of Summer Festival, Sam allowed Cole to take her hand and lead her through the throng of people to where mounds of cooked meat were being heaped onto plates. The warmth from his hand ignited the fluttering in her belly, which she tried to put off as hunger. Despite the presence of every law enforcement officer available in Durango and a handful of state patrolmen, Cole continued to scan the Festival attendees.
