EMILY'S POV. Life was slowly beginning to have meaning after I started working at Ryan's company. I was his personal assistant. We were always so formal. There was not any difference from when we were in the mansion. “Miss Emily, please get me the files immediately.” “On that, sir.” I've managed to keep my pregnancy from everyone for the past three months, but my baby bump will become more visible even if I continue putting on baggy clothes. “Excuse me sir”. I got my permission before leaving the office. I went to the cafeteria ; I was having a huge craving. As I went there, I kept getting greetings and compliments. “Hi ma'am” “We love your eyes” “We love your hair” “You're so beautiful.” I was too hungry to even reply to anyone. I just kept on giving appreciative nods. When I finally arrived at the canteen, the aroma stimulated my cravings. By the time I told the vendor what I was going to eat, she was looking at me in a weird way. “Is this only for you?” She asked noisily. “I'd prefer you minded your business” I replied. Being the boss's wife sure has a lot of advantages as well as disadvantages. “I'm sorry ma'am” I took my food happily to my office. Ryan had his mouth opened wide for seconds before he could even realize it. I ate the food with all the cravings I had in me. Just then, the door opened, revealing my step-sister. “Sam, what are you doing here?” Ryan stood up. “Are you trying to say I have to get permission before I visit my boyfriend?” She asked. “By the way….” She looked at me. “Emily is pregnant” How dare she? I was so pained. It seemed like she was sent to the earth to cause me pain. Ryan was so shocked. “Here's the most shocking one”, she put her phone on the loudspeaker. “I'm Emily Donovan and I slept with Ryan. I've always hated Samantha and this is a nice way to pay her back. And guess what? Ryan is a billionaire!” The voice note ended. The most surprising thing was that the voice was mine. But I never said anything like that. “How much more about you did I not know?” I've seen many emotional versions of Ryan, but this was the first of its kind I saw. He was looking so hurt and betrayed. I've never seen him this way. Does that mean he feels something for me? “Ryan believe me. I did not say that” I pleaded too weak to even make a defense. “How dare you use me ?” He yelled. I could bet that his eyes were clouded. “Leave my company now. You no longer have any say here”, he told me, and I stood still. “I said leave!!!” He pushed me to the door By this time, the entire staff were watching. I've never been so humiliated. “Not only are you a hoe, you're also a gold digger”, he pushed me and the staff all had their hands in their mouths. I decided that instant that this was going to be the last of its kind. “I'm leaving your lives for good. All I ever did was to make you see a reason to believe in me. I endured your insults and tolerated your attitude. Just know that by the time I'm back, I'm not going easy on any of you, especially not Samantha” I gave him a piece of my emotion and left the company for good. This country has done more harm than good to me. It's time for us to move, just my baby and I. I took a cab to the mansion. As I was about getting in, I saw a journal on the floor. Out of curiosity, I opened it. It was about a lady who lived the same life I was living but was able to make a breakthrough. The uncanny resemblance between my struggles and the lady's story was so matching. Behind the journal was a visa that would be due by this evening. What the hell was happening? Well, if this is what life wants to give me, then I'm accepting it with open arms. That doesn't stop me from being scared though. I walked into the mansion and packed my luggage hurriedly. I made my way to the airport with the little cash in my account. Soon, I was on the airplane all by myself. It's so amazing how my life evolved in less than a year. First, it was the wine. Then, I was deflowered against my will. I was married to my step-sister’s boyfriend. I got pregnant for him, and now I'm chasing the life I really want all because of a journal. “All passengers should please fasten their seat belts as the plane will be taking off in three minutes. If you have any issues, don't hesitate to call the air hostesses because of your inconveniences.” “A new life. Here we come”. I rubbed my belly gently, eagerly anticipating whatever life has to offer me. FIVE YEARS LATER. Life as a single mother was very difficult for me. I had to work my way around certain things all by myself. It was very hard to build a life as a single mother, but I did it. I built a name in corporate finance, and now I'm going back to New York City to deal with the competitors over there. They would never be expecting what is coming their way. A hand dropped on my lap and I smiled at the figure. “Are you already asleep baby?” I asked, not staring at my daughter. “Lily, are you kidding me right now?” I asked, still not staring at her. “Lily” I tickled her and her loud laughter interrupted everyone on the plane. I was slightly embarrassed. “Everyone is looking at us mama” she hid her face in my cleavages making me smile. All my struggles and efforts just had one person that made them worthwhile - Lily. I made sure to be good at what I did because I wanted to give her a better life than what I was given. “Is this the New York City you've always been talking about?” My daughter asked, letting go of my grip as we both inhaled the breeze. “It looks interesting already” she squeaked. “It would be more interesting if Ryan and Samantha were aware of my arrival” I muttered. “You were saying something, mum?” “No, my darling. Let's go and rest” “Aye aye captain!” She saluted and we shared a laugh.
