Chapter 17: A Replacement

1469 Words
Mei’s eyes was fixated on the diary, watching the vibrant black ink fade into a glowing green as she slowly pulled her curtains down and turned off the lights. Everything was pitch black, just the perfect condition to read the secret entries.     Complete darkness. Not a dim of light was allowed in order for the ink to show up just enough for Mei’s poor eyesight to read everything clearly.     Mei inspected carefully as the bright and glowing ink filled the pages in the form of Ivory’s messy handwriting and wonderful sketches. The unaligned words, the loose lines, the haphazard composition...This was her. The real Ivory.     “f**k, Ivory! I can’t believe you have to pull this s**t on me again.” Mei grunted as she read the first secret entry.      Log 3.1     First and foremost, I would like to say that all of the secret entries are all meant for Mei White, my best friend.     And by my assumptions, which are rarely ever wrong, the person currently reading this entry is just the person I wanted.     So, read this entry carefully. I know I’m probably going to die first before you even found this, so you have a lot of catching up to do.     But above all else, I’m sorry. I’m sorry I dragged you into all or even any of this. I never meant for any of this to happen. I never meant it to end up like this. But as we all know, actions have consequences, and I must someday face mine.     First of all, if you managed to find this, I would assume that you’ve read the regular entries first. Which leads to you knowing about the scholarship thing I had. Had. Because I’ve decided that I’ll be giving most of the money to my mother and try my best to not spend anything while I’m at college. So I own almost no money of the scholarship, but that’s fine!     But of course, things aren’t ever that easy. Adriane, my mother’s sister, is currently bankrupt at the moment. And as much as I prefer hanging around her over my own mother, I can’t put her needs above Anna’s. But of course, she wouldn’t be too happy about that. And by the time you’re reading this, she’d probably already connected the dots on what she needed to do.     Either she’s going to try and kill me, or I’m already dead. Either way, all she needs to do is have someone replace me for the rest of my college years while she gains all the money.     So, if any of those scenarios happen...Please revoke my scholarship. I’d rather have my mother be save from Adriane’s destructive behavior than risking it for a few bucks.     And, of course...In hindsight, this whole diary thing was never a really good idea in the first place. Because I think that Adriane took my second diary while I was in her house last holiday. Though, I’m certain that she won’t find my hidden entries. Only you know about this. Good luck, Mei.     Ivory. B     Mei was speechless. Because, what else is there to say? It’s all there. Exposed. No more lies, no more tricks. Just the plain and absolute truth.     She wasn’t even sure how to react to any of this.     Was she supposed to be sad because Ivory had known that she was going to die soon after she made this?     Was she supposed to be angry because Ivory basically just gave away her second diary to Adriane?     Was she supposed to be confused? Scared? Calm?     How was she supposed to react!?     Mei took a deep breath, and with shaking hands, flipped to the next page.      Log 2.1     Regarding the last entry, I would also like to note that there might be a third scenario. And for this, I ask of you to read log 3.165 beforehand.     Mei, there’s a very specific reason I’m warning you about her.     We both know how Anna and Adriane fights. We’ve seen it every Christmas or so. We would always hide in the attic and watch the brutally try to murder each other. Pleasant yet not so pleasant memories aside, the point is perspective. If you think that Adriane is dangerous, then you will run in terror once you’ve seen Camilla.     And yes, I know that you know her, back around grade school. And I know I rarely mention her around the gang, especially you. There’s also a reason for that.     Me and Camilla...We were like you and me. Inseparable, unbreakable...The perfect duo. We used to do everything all the time, until you came into my life.     This...This isn’t your fault, Mei. If anything, it’s mine. I took all my time and effort to you instead of her. I mean...I tried making time for the both of you, I even made a schedule for it! But eventually Camilla just...snapped. I’m still not sure why, I guess she just wanted me to herself.     I guess in a way, she felt replaced.     “But hey, that’s normal! People change friends all the time, right?”     No. Not her. I was the first and only friend she ever had. And she refused to let me go, even before you came in to the equation. She was a parasite unstable.     So, I guess she just lost it when I decided that enough was enough. And then that night happened. That god damn night happened.     It was in the middle of the night, and tomorrow was supposed to be Valentine’s day. She gave me a note that told me to come to the hill, exactly on twelve o’clock. She made that very specific, so I assumed that she was planning some sort of surprise. So I did exactly that.     And...     The rest of the page was splattered with bright glowing ink, making the rest of the entry impossible to read.      “So...I guess that’s that!” Camilla said with a soft smile. She glanced back at Violet.     Violet was...Mortified, to say the least.     “How...Why? Why would you do something like that?” Violet mumbled, her voice cracking with fear, face laced with fear and anger. Camilla finds enjoyment at Violet’s reaction.     “Why?” Camilla said as she slowly drags her fingers through Violet’s hair, smiling intently as she felt the Latino's head tremble in fear under her touch. “You want to know why?”     Violet opens her mouth to speak, though she could only let out silence and a low whimper. Camilla let out a low chuckle.     “Because...Why not?”     “Y-you...YOU’RE INSANE!” Violet choked out.     “Of course!” Camilla beamed. “Just how she likes it.” She remarked.     “N-no...That’s not her! T-there’s no way...” Violet trailed off, unsure.     “Are you saying that I’m lying?” Camilla growled, her face contorted to that of an absolute mad man. The devil herself. But it quickly twisted back to her usual cheerful complexion.     “So, now that story time’s over,” She chirped, “Time to make a little replacement for our old friend!”     Camilla jumped off the bed, and quickly lend her hand to Violet, who was still trembling with fear.     “Time’s ticking. Shall we?”     Violet would’ve hesitated, but the fear and anger had blinded her far too deep. She took Camilla’s hand and slowly nodded.     “Let’s kill her.”     “Mei! Open the f*****g door!” Olive exclaimed as she bangs the wooden door with even more force, though not having the energy to make an actual impact. Anna and Joseph standing right behind her, worried.     “Mei, please...” Joseph pleaded once more. It’s been two days.     “I’m not stopping until I find the answer!” The young girl shouted from the other side of the door.     “For what!?” Anna shouted back. “Why would you want to find out the past of someone who’s dead!?”     “Because!”  Mei shouted back in response.     Tick tock tick tock around the playground     Bing bong bing bong we ran through the maze     Tick tock tick tock play me, leave me     Bing bong bing bong well see ya around.
