If you are neutral in situations of moral conflict, you have chosen the side of the winners. As does washing one's hands of the conflict between the two sides means to side with the winning team, not to be neutral. People who have claimed themselves neutral in situations of conflict are most often never neutral, but are in favor of the status quo. Refusing to get their hands dirty.
