*POV Mason*
After leaving Aurora's room I knew immediately where I was going. I told Aurora to talk to Dimitri to buy me some time. I could see their mate bond growing and I needed to stop it. I grab a coat from the coat rack before heading out to the car. I couldn't help it but I needed to know. I drive up to the border we share with the Red Cliff pack, They had built a ridiculous medival castle wall along their border. I park and walk up to the wood and metal gate to match the medival look.
"Who are you?" I hear the voice of a male come from above me. I see a man leaning over the wall yelling down at me.
"Alpha Mason Samson of the White Peak Pack. I come to talk to your Alpha." Without a reply, his head disappears behind the wall again. I stood outside the gate kicking gravel and pacing. It seemed like forever before I finally heard movement behind the gate. The grinding of gears and locks unlocking before the gates creak open.
Alpha Jaxon comes struting out of the gate, shirt undone, as if he had no cares in the world. As if he didn't just barely break into my wife's room and threaten her.
"Alpha Mason, I had a feeling I'd see you soon." He laughs, coming to a stop a few feet away from me.
"And why is that?" I ask with a sneer.
"Because....If I found out someone could save my marriage I'd be at their doorstep too."
I don't say anything. Just waiting for him to keep talking. He reaches into his pocket and pulls a small vial filled with a swirling, colorful liquid.
"This is the potion to break the bond between The Lycan King and your sweet, sweet Aurora." The sound of her name on his lips felt disgusting. It twisted at my stomach in an uncomfortable way.
"What do you want for it?" I would give anything to keep Aurora and if what he was saying is true, then I need that vial.
"Nothing. I want you to have it. I'll even promise not to attack your pack anymore......If you give this to Aurora." He reaches the vial out, beckoning for me to take the vial. I knew this was too good to be true but I'm going to have to deal with that when it comes to it. I grab it from his hand.
"She need to drink all of it?" I ask.
"Yup, every last drop. Then it should be instant. She might be in pain for a while but it will disipate." He answers calmly. Nothing shows if he's lying or not. Then without another word, he turns around and walks back through the gate. Not even a second glance behind me.
Left stunned, I got back in my car and headed back to the packhouse. I hope this works. If it kills Aurora then at least she will still be mine. I just hope by the time I get back they haven't gotten any farther than their few stolen kisses. I knew. She was normally so bold and didn't care what people think. But with Dimitri she seemed to lose her voice. He was changing my strong Aurora into a submissivc princess. I have always done everything for everyone else including marrying Aurora in the first place but now, I'm going to be selfish and keep Aurora for me. I pull through the fort gates, parking in front of the packhouse. I wasn't going to waste any time. Aurora would no longer be fated to Dimitri by the end of the night.
I shove the vial into my pocket and head straight to the kitchen. I grab a glass from the cupboard and a can of Pepsi from the fridge. Aurora wasn't one for hot drinks. One of the many things I knew about Aurora that Dimitri didn't. She would rather have a slurpee in the middle of winter than a hot drink ever. I put some ice in the glass and then pour the drink into the glass. I grab the vial and start to pour it into her glass.
I'm startled by the sound of the kitchen door opening behind me. I turn and see Derek, my beta.
"Where'd you go?" he asks.
"Needed to clear my head." I reply. I mean it's not 100% a lie. I did clear my head. I knew exactly what I was doing now.
"Mason." Derek is looking at me suspiciously. He knew something but I don't know what.
"Derek." I respond before I grab the glass and start heading towards Aurora's room. Derek follows behind me.
"Please leave me alone. I just need to make sure she's alright okay?" I say. He would always protect Aurora and myself but if it came between her and I, he would protect her. She's his Luna and it's one of his main jobs.
"Okay." He says still following behind me. We get to her door and can't hear anything beyond the door. Hopefully Dimitri has left and its just her inside. I knock on the door.
After a couple seconds the door opens and Aurora is standing before me. My heart starts to race. Was I going to be able to go through with this? Spit in the face of the moon goddess and break something that is supposed to be fate? Is it wrong if I'm sure the goddess made a mistake this time?
"Hi Mase." She says in a happy tone. Using the nickname she gave me. My name on her lips stilled my racing heart. I knew I had to stop this. She was mine.
"Hey, I brought you a cold drink. I just wanted to make sure you are okay." I say holding the drink up for her to take. She takes it from my hand with a smile.
"Thanks. Wanna come in?" She asks. I nod and take a step inside leaving Derek outside, shutting the door behind me.
Aurora takes a sip from the glass and I find myself holding my breath. Nothing happens. She doesn't notice anything wrong with the drink but also it doesn't seem to affect her. He did say she had to drink it all. I'll need to make sure she finishes it.
"How are you doing? I ask, making small talk.
"I'm okay, yeah. Dimitri thinks maybe he should take me back to his kingdom so Jaxon can't get to me." She replies. Over my dead body. She takes some more sips from her drink and she had about 1/4 of the drink left.
"I don't think that's a good idea." I reply.
"Me either. I'm still Luna. I need to stay to protect my pack. Isla's parents are still in the hospital. Also I don't want to go." Aurora wipes a tear from her eye while putting down her now empty glass on the end table.
"Well you know, you will always be Luna here if that's what you want." I say. I was waiting to see if there were any effects from the potion.
"I know and part of me wants to stay here. Stay in the place I've called home for the past 5 years. But...." she sighs, plopping down on the edge of the bed and putting her head in her hands.
"But what?" I urge.
"But, Dimitri is starting to feel more like home. I know it's the mate bond." she looks up at me and my heart breaks. The look she gives me feels like shes pleading for me to say it's okay for her to go. And I can't give her that, can I? No. She already took the potion. Is the potion even working?
"You have had a rough day, Aurora. I think you should take a day or two. Rest. Let the adrenaline and stress come down." Do I think she needs to rest? Yes. I also just want her to stay long enough to make sure the potion works.
"You're right. Thank you for the drink, Mason. I needed it." I give her a nod as she escorts me to the door.
"Everything is going to be fine. I promise Aurora." I say and with that she nods and closes the door behind me. That potion better start working soon.
