Elara POV
No one moved for a few seconds after the figure disappeared, like the forest itself hadn’t decided if it was safe to breathe again. I stayed where I was in Kael’s hold, staring at the space where they had been standing, half-expecting them to step back out of the shadows and tell me this was some test I had already failed.
But despite that, nothing really happened
Everything remained as it was, the still trees and the empty path.
And whatever was watching us from the dark….felt farther away now.
A sigh of relief escaped my lips as I tried to steady my breathing.
“We keep moving,” Kael said finally, his voice low but firm, the kind of tone that didn’t leave room for hesitation even when everything about the situation demanded it.
No one argued.
