~CHAPTER SEVENTY THREE~
I take a breath.
Then I reach forward and take my laptop back from Ivy’s hands—not violently, but firmly enough to make a statement.
“My past,” I say calmly, “is no one’s business.”
Valentina’s eyes sharpen.
Ivy folds her arms. “You’re very bold for someone so easily replaced.”
I look at her fully now.
“If I were easily replaced,” I say softly, “you wouldn’t still be standing here hoping.”
Her smile falters for a fraction of a second.
Valentina steps closer, lowering her voice.
“Why stay where you are not wanted?”
“Are you really sure Hardin doesn’t want me here?” I ask with a smile. “You know he wouldn’t let anyone take me away from him.”
She studies me carefully.
“You are confident, like you have him where you want him. Right?” she asks.
