~CHAPTER NINE~ I can barely breathe. My voice is a whisper. “Two weeks is too soon.” “It’s perfect,” he replies. “Long enough for you to calm down… short enough to remind you this isn’t a negotiation.” He reaches out, smoothing a strand of hair behind my ear—a gesture so intimate it makes my stomach twist. “Be ready when I come,” he murmurs. Then he taps the door gently. “You can go now.” I step out of the car on shaky legs, my heart pounding so hard it feels like it might burst. As the car pulls away, I stand there in front of the hotel, unable to move. Two weeks. In two weeks, I’m supposed to marry a man who just murdered someone in front of me.
