~CHAPTER SIXTY THREE~ His jaw tightens. “You’re not built for this.” The words hit harder than the gunshots. “Built for what?” I ask, anger pushing through grief. “Being hunted?” I wipe at my face roughly. His expression shifts into something colder. “I will find out who did this.” “That’s not what I asked.” My voice rises. “Are you sure you don’t already know?” The temperature in the room drops. He stands slowly. “What are you insinuating?” His voice is quiet now. The kind that comes before bodies disappear. “I think,” I say, pushing myself off the floor, “that people don’t get that close to me unless they’re connected to you.” He steps closer.
