Getting on His Nerves

ALYSSA "Mr Alvarez!" The man's voice echoed through the room. His smile seemed to falter for a moment as he gestured towards me. He fixed his suit as if trying to make a good impression, as he kept a smile on his face while he drew the attention of the most scary man I have ever heard of to our side. I felt a shiver run down my spine as Carson Alvarez's gaze turned towards us. His piercing eyes scanned my body like a predator sizing up prey. Carson Alvarez is everything evil you can think about. I have never seen him in person before or got this close to him, but he has to be the most infamous man that lived. There are rumors that he is engaged in the Mafia business. Some called him the king of all illegal activities. Rumors said he has done everything worse one can ever think of, but contrary to what people say, his history is as clean as water, which added to his enigmatic aura. I don't know how he does it. He either knows how to keep his tracks or has the best people in the world to clean his s**t, but if there was one thing I knew for sure: I wanted to stay far away from him. "Mr Alvarez," the man repeated, his voice firm but respectful. He gestured towards me, and I swallowed the lumps that were starting to form in my throat. "This is Alyssa Jones, the young lady I was telling you about." Carson Alvarez didn't even spare me a glance. His gaze shifted to my parents, who extended their hands to greet him nervously. I've never seen my father so nervous before in my entire life. He was always so confident and composed, but it seems Mr Alvarez isn't someone he wants to get on his bad side. If he isn't even comfortable around him, why did he agree to the whole stupid plan in the first place? Mr Alvarez had a stoic look on his face as if standing here beside us was a complete waste of time and he'd rather be somewhere else, but despite the frown on his face, I couldn't help but notice how attractive he was. He was tall, at least 6'2, with an athletic body that any woman would fall for. His dark hair was slicked back, revealing his sharp jawline. He was dressed in a well-tailored suit that hung around his broad shoulders and chest. He left a few buttons of his suit jacket open, making me see just how fitted his shirt was underneath. I wondered how much time he spends in the gym to have this perfect body. Despite his reputation, women swoon all over him and fall at his feet, and I'd be lying if I said I don't understand why. He was… perfect? "So this is the lady making waves," he finally said. His deep voice was thick enough to send shivers down my spine even though I had zero idea of what he was talking about. What waves? I certainly wasn't making any waves, but hearing the dismissive tone in his voice only angered me even more. "I'm right here, you know?" I said, my voice steady despite my racing heart. Carson Alvarez raised an eyebrow, his gaze finally flickering to mine. For a moment, my eyes met with his ocean blue eyes, and it felt like he could see right through me. Just then, his attention turned back to my parents. "Let's talk business," he said curtly, his voice firm, leaving no room for arguments. He was ignoring me. "But the engagement is starting soon…" The man reminded him, but was soon cut off by a glare from him. "I'll be waiting in my office," he said before storming off rather rudely. The man released a breath of relief when he left before leading my parents to his office while I just hung around by myself. I grabbed a glass of wine from the waitress, and soon, the room was filled with guests all dressed up for an important occasion. I hope they didn't put all this effort into an engagement that shouldn't have been happening in the first place. "Hey," a young man said beside me. "Why is a pretty woman like yourself standing all alone?" He asked with a cute smile. Judging from his looks, he is probably just another rich spoiled kid, but if the man I am to be engaged with was like that, maybe I wouldn't hate the idea so much. He looks young with a free spirit. Handsome too and less intimidating. "Just observing," I lied. "Well, I don't mind observing you," he winked. He stood beside me with a charming smile on his face. One that says 'I can't wait to bend you over.' I love reading people like an open book. That is probably why I love meeting new people, because I can immediately guess their intentions, but Carson Alvarez is completely different, and now I don't know what to expect. The guests are here, but he was still in his office, discussing business with my parents on his supposed f*****g engagement. How polite. "Sure!" I smiled at him, dismissing the thoughts in my head. "You're really different, you know?" He said, and I almost rolled my eyes at his words. "Most girls would be trying to meet other influential men at the party, but you're just here," he said. "Ah! Why didn't I think of that?" I rolled my eyes at him before thinking maybe that wasn't exactly a bad idea. I don't know Carson Alvarez enough, but I know he would be pissed to see his fiancé flirting with other men. "What is your name?" He asked with an amusing smile. "Alyssa. Alyssa Jones," I said, and I bet he recognized my last name from the way his eyebrows twitched. "Do you want to play a game?" I asked with a smirk the moment I saw my parents climb down the stairs with Carson behind them. "Sure!" He grinned, and I smiled at the crazy idea in my head. If I want to ruin the engagement, there is only one way to do that. "Kiss me," I commanded. A smile spread across his face and he didn't question my intention. He leaned closer to me, and my eyes met with Carson's cold gaze. I pretended not to have seen him, but I could feel his gaze on me. Just then, I slipped my hands on the stranger's neck and pulled him closer while he claimed my lips. I closed my eyes to deepen the kiss when a stern voice spoke beside me. "Take your hands off my woman, now!"
