The massive double doors of Nightshade Manor opened into a foyer that made the Vance estate look modest. High vaulted ceilings, dark marble floors that reflected the warm glow of crystal chandeliers, and an imposing grand staircase greeted us.
"Welcome to my home," Lucian said, handing his damp coat to a waiting butler who bowed silently and stepped away. "You'll be staying in the west wing. Itâs quiet, private, and entirely yours." I wrapped my arms around myself, still feeling the lingering chill of the rainâand the heavy ache where my mate bond had just been severed.
"Why are you doing this, Lucian? You barely know me. In the werewolf world, a rejected mate is seen as damaged goods."
Lucian turned to face me, taking a slow step closer. He was tall, his presence filling the grand space effortlessly.
"Ethan Vance is a fool who only values surface shine," Lucian said quietly, his dark eyes searching mine. "He saw a quiet girl with no status. He didn't see the blood of the Silver Moon lineage running through your veins." My breath hitched. "Silver Moon? My mother never spoke about her family."
"Because she was protecting you," Lucian replied. "The Silver Moon lineage carries rare giftingsâunmatched physical strength, rapid healing, and an aura that can command entire packs. Ethan's father knew it, which is why he arranged the bond potential years ago. But Ethan was too blinded by Victoriaâs cheap flattery to recognize what he had." He gestured toward the grand staircase.
"Starting tomorrow, you begin your training. combat, business, strategy, and mastering your wolf. In three months, the annual Alpha Summit takes place. Ethan will be there, expecting to show off Victoria as his high-society Luna." A dark, dangerous smile touched Lucian's lips. "Imagine his face when you walk into that room, not as a broken girl, but as the most powerful woman in the territory."
A spark flared in my chestâa fire replacing the cold emptiness Ethan had left behind. My wolf lifted her head, letting out a low, confident growl.
"Three months," I said, looking straight into Lucian's eyes. "Teach me everything."
