I warned myself internally that Leo was engaged to someone else. I shouldn't do anything that would cause a misunderstanding.
The atmosphere was thick with an awkward silence. Just as I sat up and prepared to leave, Ruby walked in with a packed meal in her hands.
"Leo, is Pauline okay?" Ruby asked in a caring tone. If she hadn't said what she did outside the operating room today, I would have bought her act.
"I'm fine now. Thank you for your concern." I lifted the quilt off of myself and made to go back to duty. Leo's fiancée was in the room, so as an outsider, I felt like I was intruding on them.
"Your body is still weak. Eat something before you go." Leo reached out and placed the packed meal from Ruby and set it on the table.
