(Kanyon's POV) I lowered Lily onto the bed as carefully as if she were made of glass, making sure her head rested comfortably against the pillow before pulling the blanket over her. She still hadn't opened her eyes. A loose strand of brown hair had fallen across her face. Without thinking, I brushed it away, my fingers lingering for the briefest moment before I stepped back. She'd been perfectly fine only moments ago. Calm. Confident. Directing nurses and treating wounded warriors as though she'd spent her entire life inside a hospital. Then she'd simply collapsed. Jace paced restlessly beneath my skin. "She's going to be alright," he murmured. I wanted to believe him. I really did. But the image of her swaying on her feet before falling into my arms refused to leave my mind.
