“Cause of death: resident of Lviv”— leaflets with this text and the picture of Yuriy Verbytskyi—a PhD, seismologist, mountaineer and the Maidan activist tortured to death by anti-Maidan thugs—were all over Lviv on the day of his funeral.
The body of the 50 year-old hero of the Celestial Hundred was found next to a forest belt in Boryspil district on January 22. Two days before he and a civil activist Ihor Lutsenko had been kidnapped from Oleksandrivska hospital where he was treated for an eye injury. Later on Ihor said they had both been beaten badly, but Yuriy had been tortured a lot more brutally because he was a “Lvivian and a Banderovite.”
