The hero of the Celestial Hundred Valeriy Opanasiuk died on February 20 from a gunshot wound to the heart as he dragged the injured protester from the front line.
“Happy, clever and a very good person. He was there—in the tent, where people from Rivne stayed—he was there on the most hectic days,” this is what the deputy of Rivne City council Oleksandr Lashchuk tells us about Valeriy Opanasiuk. They met on the minibus to Kyiv. Both were going there, and made friends on the way.
Lashchuk says that Opanasiuk was on duty at the barricade, registering the newly arrived ones. “If someone was underclad, Valera always looked for and offered warm clothes, while himself wearing a grey jersey even on the coldest nights,”says Lashc
