Chapter 4

I shifted in my seat, feeling very uncomfortable as Joe spoke to the directors. It's so crazy that he hasn't looked in my direction since he stepped into this room. Doesn't he recognize me? He should! The only thing that was different about me that night was my dress which was so revealing. I didn't let Fiona plaster my face with make-up. He seemed different than he was that night. All serious, commanding authority, and more handsome than when we first met. So he's the CEO of Pinfrost Groups. No wonder he left a freaking two thousand dollar bill for me. So that made me what? A s**t? Gosh! I looked away, unable to look at him any further. I scribbled down some things he said while struggling with staying attentive to every detail. What am I to do next? Tell him I'm pregnant and with the child for him? Fiona is smart for situations like this and may have an answer. I sent a text to her. My baby daddy is the freaking CEO of the company I'm working with!!! What should I do? "Effective communication is mandatory for the success of this organization. If you have issues and complaints, always address them to HR. Mr. Rich, your role in this organization is to protect the company's image! You have no business with siding with the public! Defend us!!" Huh! What's going on here? When did he get to the part of scolding Mr. Rich? I stole a glance at him and he only kept a straight face, no emotions. What went wrong? I've been absent-minded, gosh! My phone pinged and I quickly checked to see if Fiona had replied. Are you for real??? Tell me you're kidding. I need an answer straight away, and not drama! What should I do?? There's little time left. I quickly text back. Rich nudged me with his hands and I looked up to see everyone was standing and the meeting was over. I stood at once and all eyes fell on me. "Avery Brandt. My new secretary." Rich introduced. "Hh..." My voice got clogged and I quickly cleared my throat. "It's a pleasure to meet you all," I said and they all nodded and began to walk out of the room. How welcoming! "Put yourself together, Avery," Rich whispered as we all filed out of the conference room. The men shook hands and exchanged pleasantries while I watched them all at a corner. My phone pinged again and I checked to see Fiona's response. I don't know the work policy in your company, but you should stalk him after now. From what you said he did the next morning, I doubt a man like Joe would give you ears in his company. Hmm... That makes sense. He hasn't even glanced at me since he got here so approaching him to tell him I'm pregnant would be crazy. They all began to disperse and it was now Rich and I left. "What's wrong with you Avery?" Rich asked, facing me the moment we were alone. "I think I've caught the flu." "Oh! You've been acting all strange since you got to work. You need rest." I nod my head gingerly as my eyes trace Joe. He was close to getting into the elevator. I would heed Fiona's advice and stalk him to wherever he's headed. "Avery??" I turned to Rich. Did he say something? His eyes moved from Joe to me and back to me. Damn! He caught me staring. "I was saying you could take the day off." He said, not making any comments on what he had just observed. "Thank you, Sir," I said in relief. I had wondered what excuse I'd give to stalk Joe, but thank goodness. We both walked to the office. I packed my things and muttered a goodbye to Rich while trying to act all dull around him to prove I was indeed sick. The moment I left the office, I rushed with speed to the elevator for the last floor while praying Joe hadn't left the building yet. I kept fidgeting as the elevator descended. Where is he headed to and how would I stalk him? Damn, damn, damn!! If anyone had told me two months ago that my life would be this messy now, I would never have believed it. The elevator opened and I rushed out. I bumped into someone, and hot liquid spilled on my chest. "f**k!" I saw a young lady with a spilled hot cup of coffee. "I'm sorry, sorry," I said in a rush and continued the race to the door. "What the f**k!!" I heard her curse more behind me. I tapped my chest and blew air repeatedly to cool off the heat I felt on my breast. I looked down to see my white shirt had turned brown. Well, that's far from my worries right now. Outside the building, I looked around for any trace of Joe but saw nobody. Even the directors at the meeting weren't in sight. How fast did they leave the building? My eyes scanned the cars at the car park. I get a bit calm when I see some flashy cars. Maybe, just maybe one of those cars belongs to Joe. I walked to a truck and concealed myself while watching the doors and praying Joe was still inside. I sighed in frustration after waiting for five minutes and seeing no sign of him. I began to make my way back in but stopped when I remembered Rich had given me the day off. The door opened and I ran back to my hiding spot as a group of men walked out. I saw Joe in their midst and my heart jumped. They stood at a spot and spoke at length, shook hands and all walked to their respective cars. "Alright, alright. You've got this Avery!" I muttered reassuringly to myself as Joe walked to a car. The driver's seat opened and a man whom I presume is his driver stepped down, went around, and opened the door at the backseat for him to get in. I moved closer and took a picture of the car's plate number. The moment the car got in motion, I ran to the road and flagged down a cab. "Hello miss. Where're we headed?" A young man in his late twenties with a thick British accent asked as I entered. I pointed to Joe's car which was ahead of us. "Follow the red car."
