“Hello,” Arthur said as he answered his cell phone. He was sitting in the living room of his cabin watching little Joey play with Frankie. Up in the attic Frankie had found a box of Arthur’s sons old toys and had brought them down for little Joey. His laughter filled the cabin as Frankie crashed cars into the ones little Joey had in his hand. Arthur remembered Leo at that age with his little pudgy arms and legs, wrinkle marks on his wrists because he was so chubby. Alas it was only memories now Leo hadn’t spoken to Arthur in months since he told him and Lucia that he was gay. Lucia was very supportive where Arthur had been surprised and not as supportive of their sons decision.
“Hey boss,” Vinnie said on the other end of the phone. “Yeah,” Arthur said. “You’re never gonna guess who I just saw,” Vinnie said excitedly. “Okay who,” Arthur said. “Ben and Mirella they are about an hour away from you,” Vinnie said. “Okay thank you,” Arthur said hanging up. “They should be here in about an hour,” Arthur said to Frankie. “My mama,” little Joey said with a smile. “Yes little man,” Frankie said smiling at the little guy. He was gonna miss this little man in the last 24 hours he had gotten kinda attached to him. His cute little pudgy self always smiling and laughing.
Arthur Anderro heard the car pull up and grabbed his phone to check the camera. A black car was coming down the driveway, this had to be Ben and Mirella. An hour ago Vinnie one of his guys who was heading back to the city ran into Ben and Mirella getting gas and some food at a convenience store. He confirmed they were getting close. Arthur said, “All right Frankie take little Joey upstairs while we speak with his mother.” Frankie grabbed little Joey and brought him up the stairs with his toys.
Arthur walked to the front door as Ben stopped in the driveway. Mirella and Ben walked slowly up to the door seemingly apprehensive. Ben knocked on the door as Mirella stood behind him. Arthur answered the door after the first knock. “Welcome,” Arthur said with a smile he hadn’t realized just how beautiful Mirella was in person. Of course he had heard she was beautiful but the talk didn’t even do her justice.
Mirella smiled and walked through the doorway past Arthur. As she stepped by him Arthur felt a tightening in his groin, he hadn’t felt like this about a woman, not even Anjanette in quite a while. “This is a lovely home,” Mirella said maintaining her strong composure. “Thank you,” Arthur said as he shut the door behind Ben. “Well where is my son?” Mirella asked looking around the living room there was a handful of toys still on the floor. “Oh he’s upstairs playing with Frankie,” Arthur said as a loud laughter could be heard upstairs. “I thought we could talk first,” Arthur said. Arthur gestures towards the kitchen and Mirella and Ben went ahead into the massive kitchen. “Wow this is beautiful,” Mirella said as she took a seat at the table.
“Okay so first things first can I offer you something to eat or drink?” Arthur said as he stepped towards the massive refrigerator. “Yes a lemonade or some iced tea would be great,” Mirella said as she looked around the massive kitchen. Beautiful marble countertops and the flooring to match created a lovely backdrop for the stark white cabinets with their black hardware. A nightmare to clean but so beautiful Mirella thought. “So I suppose your wife is not with you today,” Mirella said as she took the glass of iced lemonade in a crystal glass. “No she is at our home in the city,” Arthur said as he took a seat across from Mirella. She was quite stunning Arthur thought as he looked at her. “Look all I want is to maintain our territories we have already established within Brooklyn,” Arthur said. “So you stay South of Atlantic and we are North of Atlantic,” Mirella said. “Yes exactly maintain our territories,” Arthur said. “I’m okay with that with Joey upstate I make all the decisions so I’m okay with that,” Mirella said. “Now that we cleared this up let me get your son and you can be on your way with Ben unless you want to join us for dinner,” Arthur said. “No I think it’s best we head out,” Mirella said.
Ben came into the kitchen as Arthur walked out. “Everything okay?” Ben asked looking at Mirella. “Yes we are leaving with little Joey as soon as he comes down,” Mirella said. “Mama,” Little Joey screamed jumping into her arms. “I had fun playing with my friend Frankie,” he said as Mirella picked him up to kiss him. The gentleman who had grabbed Joey from the store came into the kitchen. “I’ll miss you little guy,” he said and then turned to Mirella and said “I’m sorry for taking your son.” Mirella nodded and with Little Joey in hand they headed for the door. “Hey little man here you can keep these,” Frankie said handing Mirella a bag of toys. “Thank you,” Little Joey said as he laid his head down on Mirella’s shoulder as she helped him put on his jacket. “All right thanks for taking care of little Joey,” Mirella said as she walked out of the door. Ben said his goodbyes and jumped in the drivers seat as Mirella got little Joey into his car seat. As she got in the car Ben asked, “everyone ready to go home?”
