Ember POV:
The look in his eyes and on his face, broke my heart. I know why he would think that after what I had just done, but the thought of outright rejecting my mate brought tears to my eyes. Maybe Gage and the pack would be better off if I did reject him and leave for good. It doesn’t matter how painful it would be for me, and Gage is strong. It would hurt him but I’m sure he would recover fairly quickly. I took a step towards him, and he met me with a step back. Never uncrossing his arms. I had hurt him when I was only doing what I thought would protect him. It was like a knife to my chest when he did that. My mind started racing at his actions. Did he want me to reject him? Was he already tired of having deal with me and my crazy father?
