"Welcome everyone to my livestream: Rich Family Reunion! Today I'll show you my fiancé's brand-new outfit!"
Once the weekend arrived, Leah turned the shared apartment's living room into a livestream studio. Cheap golden letter decals covered the walls, and several bottles of counterfeit imported liquor lined the table.
She held her phone and struck dramatic poses for the camera, occasionally panning the lens toward the vagrant huddled in the corner. "See this? This Maybach is the private car the Elias family sent to vet me secretly."
She lifted a printed photo of the luxury vehicle and lied straight to the camera without a flicker of guilt. "Once Elias regains his memories, this car will just be my everyday ride for grocery runs."
Comments flooded the livestream chat at breakneck speed.
"Mrs. Elias, you're incredible! Don't forget us once you strike it rich!"
"Leah, once the family reunion goes through, can you gift me a designer handbag?"
Leah grinned from ear to ear and waved her hand grandly. "Absolutely! Once I get hold of the black card, every supporter in this livestream will receive the latest iPhone!"
With this public boast, she cut off every possible escape route for herself. I sat inside my new apartment watching Leah on screen. I was about to exit the livestream when my phone rang. It was Lina Enid, a university classmate. "Nora, Leah claims the two of you invested together in a fallen wealthy heir. She borrowed thirty thousand from me. The repayment deadline is next week, and I can't get hold of her. You're liable for this debt — she showed me a photo of the two of you to borrow the money."
I gripped my phone and took a deep breath. "Lina, listen carefully. I moved out a long time ago. There is no joint investment between us. Her loans are her personal responsibility. I have never taken part, and I will not repay a single cent for her."
After ending the call, I posted a lengthy statement in our university class group chat. I clarified that I had cut all ties with Leah long before and demanded she remove her false endorsement immediately. The group erupted instantly. Leah quickly jumped in and sent a tearful voice message. "Nora, why are you being so cruel? You're trying to steal the heir I found! Now that you see I'm close to success, you deliberately smear me in front of everyone!"
Several classmates who loved gossiping immediately piled on. "Nora, you're so opportunistic. Now that Leah's about to get rich, you want to hog all the benefits for yourself?"
I wasted no more words on them and dropped the audio recording of Leah taking full responsibility into the group chat. The chat fell dead silent at once. I typed out a line and sent it.
Nora: If anyone continues linking my name with hers, I will send formal legal warning letters without hesitation.
The first batch of loans would mature soon, and Leah had no means to pay them back. She could not even afford the minimum monthly payment, and endless debt collection calls bombarded her phone every day. To calm her creditors, she swore wildly in the group chat. "What are you all panicking about? That old coat of his definitely holds an unlimited-spending black card! Once we get it out, your tiny debts won't amount to anything!"
Lina, who had lent her the largest sum, refused to buy into her fantasy and issued an ultimatum. "Leah, you must go live this weekend and show proof of the heirloom! If you cannot produce that black card, I will bring people to your residence to demand full repayment, principal plus interest!"
A few minutes later, Leah sent me a private message.
Leah: You have to come back this weekend! I'm going to let you witness, in front of the whole livestream audience and every creditor, exactly how vast a fortune you chose to walk away from!
I stared at the message and let out a cold snort.
'Very well. I will return. I cannot wait to see what ugly truth lies beneath all her delusional fantasies.'
