Lies I tell myself

The bus ride from Florida to Ohio seemed to last longer than I anticipated. I stopped in Cincinnati and found the first bank that was affiliated with the bank on my mothers paperwork, First and Finical. I found a clerk right away and she guided me through the process of getting my mothers accounts in order and I was instantly with so much money that my head swirled. I had saved every dime of my money for 18 years of my life but barely had 6 grand to my name seeing quadruple zeros in a bank account was so hard to swallow.

I got back on the bus and headed to cleaves to get with my new show I was told someone would be there waiting for me. My purple eyes nobody believed were real and dark black hair hit the sun just right and a passenger to my left asked me if it was dyed or natural speaking about my hair. She could have passed for my granny gene in my other show easily but it was definitely not her making me miss home a little bit at that moment.

I replied shyly it’s natural ma’am my mothers hair was dark as night.

The bus stopped in Harrisburg and I grabbed my two duffel bags and my back pack and exited the bus. Their was a white flatbed diesel truck with a muscle clad guy with a ball cap standing there waiting his glass blue eyes had me spell bound for a solid minute and I didn’t hear him speak my name until he cleared his throat and I watched his lips move again.

Hmmm are you Clarissa he asked with steel in his voice

Ummm yea sorry I’m Clarissa

He gathered my stuff from my hands and chucked them in his back seat his eyes barely leaving me I almost felt violated how long he stared at me. I climbed in the back seat like I would have at my home show and he smirked at me

You can sit up here you know

Ohh sorry not use to that we always sat in the back were the seen not heard type especially females

His jaws clenched at my soft voice and explanation he almost seemed angry at my response I kept my mouth shut right after my answer and looked down to not bother him anymore. I looked up occasionally to see if he was still watching me and sure enough his intense blue eyes grabbed my face just as we pulled into the new shops driveway. This tiny shows owners met me at the truck introducing themselves as

Ronnie and Davis owners and Tony as a co-owner along with there children Blake whom I just met and Kelly their other daughter and their missing daughter Raquel who’s off exploring the world at the moment and Blake’s twin sister.

Ronnie showed me to my bunk room but it wasn’t with the rest of the crew it was a private living quarters with its own shower and everything it was also the company’s refrigerator truck so it had 4 refrigerator in the front half of the truck that stay plugged in and used.

We rarely let new hires use a private quarters but your background alone will make you a valuable resource to our company Ronnie and Tony informed me.

Kelly reached out to me at lunch time to grab some stuff from the deli and I was ok with that the bus that took the crew to eat was packed full of people and I would have had to squeeze in somewhere so I was ever so thankful Kelly invited me to ride with her.

We grabbed food I only grabbed two green peppers and some cheese sticks I have a sensitive stomach after traveling and can’t eat heavy at all I explained that to Kelly and she said ok we can go for groceries tomorrow after taking rides to the location if you like so you don’t have to eat fast food.

Kelly seriously that’s amazing thank you for your kindness today I really appreciate it. Do you mind me asking what’s Blake’s deal he stares at me grumbles and walks away did I do something wrong already I feel like I have and he mad about something I’ve done.

Kelly stared at me with similar blue gaze and replied I haven’t noticed I’ll ask him what’s up later at our meeting.

I nodded my head in silence listened to Ronnie and Tony’s list of demands for cleaning stocking and prepping for tomorrow’s drive and set up.

I made myself list of things to do so I kept busy from beginning to end of daylight carni superstitions are no power before first show so we had to work with the daylight we had. I beat everyone out the next morning to clean and wash windows Bally clothes and floor mats. I had all but stocked joints by time everyone made it to the field we were working in had I gotten a key to access joint stock I would have had it finished as well.

8 other women joined Tony and Ronnie and seen the amount of work I had finished before 10am and were baffled at everything finished.

I’m sorry I’m from a Florida show we got 3 hours to clean and set we learned to clean efficiently and timely with little to no help for our day to day crew.

Tony pulled me aside

Clarissa your gonna have to slow down we can’t pay the girls for doing nothing ok

I’m sorry ms Tony I didn’t think of it that way

Clarissa you talk to me like that again we’re gonna have problems your ok to calm down and speak to me like a friend not a boss she said smirking at me

I smiled back yes ma’am

She swatted at me and I ducked her swats as I headed towards the stock trucks to grab prizes for the gaming joints.

We made it to thunder show set up and I seen Blake in passing a couple times that day cicily made a comment he’s the boss kid your not gonna get his attention he pays no mind to the help hun he’s very determined to make this show last a long time.

I blushed at the thought of someone noticing me looking at him or for him. Kelly walked up to our group of girls and started chatting with us.

Cicily looked at Kelly with wide eyes and realized she was standing directly next to me and was making me smile and laugh talking about stinky butts and men and Blake walked up to us at that moment I was already cracking up at Kelly.

Blake rolled his eyes at Kelly’s goofy mannerisms and patted her back and said it’s time to go we got stuff to do and Kelly walked away with him.

Cicily shrugged and said show stuff that’s what they gotta do now.

We walked the midway and set each joint food and game trailer up in less then 2 hours I was sitting in the balloon trailer with cicily and filling the board going over the basics of the game know when certain tabs got hit we don’t refill that spot again for the remainder of the night.

I kept a steady flow of customers all day and night without a break but did notice Blake standing on the corner of the joint several times just watching me his blue gaze staring into me.

I know I shouldn’t be having these feelings about this man I just met but my heart flutters every time I see him I don’t have a chance in hell with him but he’s cute and rugged and definitely fun ti look at with his chestnut hair and strong well taken care of physique. Maybe he will talk to me tomorrow but today it’s lies I tell myself.
