Gabrielle’s POV The night air was colder than I expected as I walked through the quiet streets. I should’ve stayed home, but the walls of the house felt suffocating, especially after Matthew’s outburst the other night. He hadn’t come back yet, and though I wouldn’t admit it, I missed him. My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a car pulling up beside me. “Gabrielle!” I turned to see “Mike” leaning out of the driver’s window, his ever-charming smile in place. “Fancy seeing you out here,” he said, parking the car and hopping out. He was dressed impeccably, as usual—dark jeans, a fitted jacket, and an air of effortless cool that would make anyone suspicious.
