LYRA’S POV
“She's just a child!”
My mother's desperate cry woke me from my slumber. I stumbled into the living room to find her struggling with a strange man. I saw the motionless body of my beloved father by the side, blood seeping from a wound on his forehead.
“Papa?” I whispered, waiting for him to move. I was waiting for him to smile at me and say it was just a prank, bumut he didn’t move. No sound came from him. He just lay there, staring blankly at the ceiling. A shiver spread through my body as I came to the realisation that he was gone.
“She's just 14 years old. She doesn't have anything to do with this!” my mother broke into a loud cry as the man flung her against the wall. Her voice was so broken that it hurt me to hear. The tears that streamed down her eyes ruined the remnants of makeup she had on from last night's outing. She looked nothing like the beautiful woman who had kissed me goodnight.
“We will…I will do whatever you want. Just don't harm her, she's the only joy I have left in this world,” she begged, her eyes darting towards my father.
“Oh, now you want my kindness?”
“You went ahead to attack when I gave you a chance, and now you will suffer the consequences,” the man growled.
I didn't understand what he was saying. Attack who? When?
“I have put your Alpha out of his misery, but believe me,you will suffer something worse than death. Your child will be mine to do with as I please,” he laughed evilly and I got frightened. I didn't understand what was happening.
I ran into my mom's arms, she was bleeding from her nose and her nightie was soaked in blood. My heart raced as I tried to comprehend what was going on.
My mom wrapped her hands around me. Her tears sprinkled onto my cheek as she sobbed.
“Please…I can't let you take her away. Please. Take my head instead,” my mother tried to plead for mercy as the man reached to grab me from her arms.
“Mommy, I'm scared,” I cried as I clung tightly to her.
“Shh,baby, it's going to be alright,” she whispered as she held me tighter than ever before.
“Just cut the crap already,” the monstrous man snapped, grabbing me out of my mother's bosom.
“Come quietly, or be punished,” he growled as he gripped my wrist tightly.
“My mother's eyes grew cold, like she had given up, like she had given me up.
I couldn't blame her. She lost her husband and would be losing her only child too, her only family.
Suddenly with a loud howl, followed by multiple growls, she shifted and lunged towards the man I had considered the devil's son. It felt like she was fighting her last fight so I wouldn't feel she sat back and watched a man take me away for something I was unaware of.
She was a beautiful grey wolf. Her eyes glowed a blue colour and she looked very majestic.
The man still held my arm despite the whole scene, but at this point I was more concentrated on my superhero mom.
That was until…he grabbed her by the neck with his other hand and within three seconds of him pinning her in the air,I heard a sickening crack echo through the now silent house.
He threw her aside like she was nothing, her wolf form crumpling lifeless against the wall.
“Mommy!” I screamed, my throat burning. She didn't make a sound…nor did she ever get up again.
The man turned his gaze back to me. His smirk made my stomach twist.
In one swift motion, he lifted me up by my wrists. Pain exploded through my arms as they snapped. I screamed, kicking and thrashing, but he only laughed as he dangled me from my broken wrists.
“Hello, child. I am Damien, but you shall only refer to me as master. “Do you understand?”
I didn't answer and it fueled his rage. His grip tightened, “I said,do you understand?” his eyes had a tiny touch of red as his fangs were now almost visible.
“Y-Yes m-master,” I stuttered the words as tears welled down from my eyes.
His grin widened. He flung me across his back like a rag doll and walked away.
I saw everything for the last time, my father’s body lying still, my mother’s wolf form lifeless against the wall and the blood that was everywhere. My home was gone. My family was gone.
That was how my life ended in the blink of an eye. I knew I would never see my mother or father again. The monster had killed them. In that moment I realized something far worse. The show was only beginning, and for me there would be no end.
