THE RETURN 10

415 Words
The heavy doors creaked open, and Daniel and Claire stepped out into the fading light. Their clothes were torn, their faces pale, but their eyes burned with the fire of survival. Behind them, the cursed house stood silent, its walls cracked and lifeless, no longer breathing with shadows. Gasps filled the air. The entire school students, teachers, even the principal had gathered outside, waiting. Whispers rippled through the crowd. “They made it out…” “The house didn’t take them…” “It’s finally over.” Claire tightened her grip on Daniel’s hand. She could feel the weight of every gaze, the fear and curiosity etched into their faces. For years, the house had been a legend, a warning whispered in classrooms and hallways. Now, two students had walked into its jaws and returned alive. The principal stepped forward, his voice trembling. “Children… what happened in there?” Daniel swallowed hard, his voice hoarse but steady. “The house fed on stories. It trapped souls, wrote their lives into its cursed library. But we found a book a mystery book that held the riddles to break it. And together… we ended it.”The crowd fell silent. Teachers exchanged uneasy glances, students clutched each other’s arms. Some looked relieved, others terrified. Claire raised her chin. “The house is gone. But let this be a lesson. Curiosity without caution can destroy you. Loyalty can save you. And love is stronger than any curse.”Her words carried across the crowd, sinking into every heart. The principal placed a hand on their shoulders. “You’ve done more than survive. You’ve taught us all something. This house was a curse on our town, but you’ve shown that even the darkest stories can have endings filled with light.”The students erupted into applause, some crying, others cheering. Daniel and Claire exchanged a look weary but proud. They had faced the abyss, solved the riddles, and rewritten their ending. As the crowd dispersed, Claire whispered to Daniel, “We’re not just survivors. We’re storytellers now. And this story will remind everyone that even in darkness, there’s a way out.”Daniel nodded, his voice soft but resolute. “Then let’s make sure it’s never forgotten.” Together, they walked away from the ruins, the school behind them buzzing with awe. The house had tried to claim them, but instead, they had claimed the story. And in that story lay the lessons that would echo through generations.
