Hephzibah's POV
I took a deep breath, "We just want to talk," I said, looking directly at Zed, and then I moved closer to him. "I promise I won't tell him anything or break the rules. "But keep my eyes on Kate on her next move as well." I whispered slowly to him, and he let go of my hands while I walked away with Newton to the back of the house.
Everyone watched.
Newton dragged my hands forcefully to his front, his face so red. "You shouldn't be dating that asshole, Heph!" His voice was so harsh that he ran his hand through his hair to control his anger. "Hephzibah! He's a player. "There's no way he would like anyone else like you. "He loves hot girls on campus," he growled.
It was a big slap in my face. I took a deep breath, "I am sorry, Newton," I chuckled.
"What do you mean by that?" still confused by his words.
"I know what these hockey boys want from girls, then Zed! You are not his type. "He's using you and messing around with your good reputation," he continued, but I was feeling irritated with his words.
"He knows that you're my sister, using that against me," he yelled at me.
I stood there watching, curling a smile on my face. "Because I am not the type of girl any hockey guy wants as a girlfriend, right?" I repeated once more.
"Or you are just jealous of what you're seeing, answer me, Newton!" I scoffed.
"Oh, I forgot, I am the only type of girl they want to use or ruin?" I asked, crossing my hands across my chest.
"You think only hot famous girls on campus, like Kate, Rita, Hilda, are good enough to date hockey guys?" I asked angrily.
He drew close, held my shoulders, our eyes gazed at each other. "Hephzibah, no, I didn't say that or mean that way, listen to me," he said softly, but I shuddered away from him, trying so hard not to shed tears.
"I'm trying to protect you from Fox," he continued. I looked at him angrily.
"Protect? You stood there this afternoon when Kate humiliated me in public; you didn't do your job, and now you want to act like a big brother? Newton said," I bit my lips heavily, trying not to be vulnerable.
"Heph!" he called. But I held him from speaking.
"That's who you are, Newton," I snapped.
"When was the last time you ever said nice things to me as your baby sister, only deeming words!" I waved my hands into the air.
"Now I realize that you only think so little of me," I pushed him away from my sight and ran off to the balcony.
I was so pissed by his words, never knew it would be hard for me to believe that those mindsets were coming from someone I longed for in bed.
"What did that moron say to you?" Zed asked, breaking me out of my silly thought,
He was actually waiting for me all this while, a bit concerned. I looked at him, gave a deep sigh with a heavy breath.
"Nothing, let's forget about him for now," I moved my face away from the poolside, not wanting the tears to drop from my cheeks.
He moved closely towards me. "Are you crying for him?" he pulled my face towards him. I cleared my throat, trying so hard not to let it fall off.
"No, Zed. "Let's get back to business," I quietly removed his hands from my cheeks.
"Any information about Kate and her manipulation?" I asked, folding my arms while trying to change the topic and hide those tears. "Nothing for now, I think she has not gotten so close to her phone this evening, but if I get any information, I will update you on it, my ICEQUEEN17," he said, smiling.
I was shocked, looked around to see if anyone heard him, "Zed! "This is public," I said softly, still looking around.
"You don't need to be scared, your secret is with me," he smiled, holding his chest.
His smile was so beautiful, even his muscular abs looked well-built. I brushed off the admiration sharply.
"Can I leave now?" I said, feeling so uncomfortable with the pool party going on.
"But the party had just begun, and we hadn't even swum together yet," Zed said, holding my arms, but I pulled away slyly.
"I don't want to swim. "I need to be at home to start off the assignment," I responded.
His face looked disappointed. "You don't want to swim, or you don't want Newton to swim you in the pool with me?" he asked, his eyes piercing into mine.
I paused for a while.
"What's in your mind, Miss Glasses?" he asked again.
"I will be ready to help you out," but I said nothing.
"Come on, Miss Glasses. "Don't be too shy," he drew close to me, trying to pull off the long kimono that covered my bikini.
"Don't you dare," I scoffed.
I always cover my body as much as possible to cover up the marks on my body and also the stretch marks on my boobs. It was my shame.
Those marks were given to me by my father when I was little. I held those gowns tightly to my body.
"It's fine, you can leave," Zed said angrily, turning away from me and back to the building.
"Wait, Zed..." I stammered, but he was gone.
"I don't like pool parties or exposing my body. "It reveals a lot of my insecurities," I finished my statement with a deep sigh.
I couldn’t let him or anyone here see my body. The words they would say... it would be like high school mockery all over again. And Kate? She would win again with her torture.
I was lost in thought, not knowing what to say.
"Hello, Hephzibah," a voice called from behind.
I turned slowly.
Kate.
I rolled my eyes in disgust.
"I thought you were just a little naive brat," she snarled, flaunting her body with pride.
"I didn’t know you'd always had eyes for guys. "I mean, it must be deep inside you to let one," she shuddered.
"What do you mean?" I cut her off, confused and already annoyed.
"You're desperate enough to want the attention, so have it," she laughed, taking a step closer to me.
"Are you jealous that the hottest hockey guy is dating me and not one of your friends? Or maybe it’s the fact that Newton was admiring my skin too, not looking at you? I responded sharply.
"I knew you were doing all of this for his attention. "Will you do anything to get him excited?" she scoffed, then poured her drink all over my kimono. Her hand grabbed the scarf tied around my waist and pulled it forcefully.
Everyone screamed.
The soaked fabric mapped to my body. The big mark on my lap was exposed. My biggest insecurities.
"What are you doing?!" I cried, holding the wet kimono tightly to cover myself. My eyes stung with tears.
Kate stared coldly, her voice sharp and unbothered. She poured another splash of drink on my face.
"Come on, Hephzibah. "Let everyone see that banging body—with those ugly marks on your thighs," she said, still pouring wine and soaking the kimono completely.
Everyone echoed around the pool. People drew closer to watch the scene.
And before I could stop her, she grabbed the edge of my kimono and tore it to pieces.
My body was revealed to everyone. My scars. My stretch marks. Everything.
I held my body tightly, trembling.
