LAZZARO “Tania, go ahead. I’ll meet you there,” I told her. I don’t want her listening in on my business. I didn’t trust her. She’s not born of a Mafia family, but she’s well connected with a lot of Mafia bosses, and even some of the feds. I used to use her to get information from the feds and other Mafia bosses, but I don’t trust her anymore. She could be working for someone else right now and I wouldn’t even know. She hesitated for a moment before nodding and walking away. I returned my attention to Mario. “What is it?” I asked him immediately, hoping it’s not so much of a problem. “Our goods have been seized at the shore!” he said exasperatedly, running his finger through his hair in frustration. “f**k!” I groaned and stomped my foot on the floor. My hands went akimbo and I sighed before asking, “Our men?” “They managed to get away. One of them sustained a gunshot injury. But he’ll be fine though,” he told me. “Lila Monroe.” Rage vibrated through me as I groaned. I knew it was that b***h’s doing. “We need to do something about her, boss. She’s getting out of hand. This is the third operation she’s busted,” Mario groaned. I couldn’t help but wonder how she kept getting intel on our operations. There’s only one reasonable explanation I could find. There’s a mole in this organization. “There’s a mole. We need to find who it is and get rid of him!” I hissed. “I thought so too. I’ll get to it, boss, and get back to you.” “Make sure you find him. And also find out if Lila Monroe has any family. We need to start taking action now,” I instructed him. “Yes, boss,” Mario said and nodded. She f*****g messed with the wrong guy. I’ll make her life f*****g miserable so she wouldn’t have the zeal to live anymore, let alone have the zeal to continue trying to incriminate me. “Get back to me as soon as possible,” I said, as I walked away from him. Heading to my room, I found Tania sitting on my bed, with her legs crossed together. “You know, I miss when this used to be my bedroom too. I was always here, in your bed, having fun with you,” she muttered, her gaze fixed on me. “I miss us, Lazzaro, I miss you.” “Why are you here? I thought I warned you the last time you were here to stay away from Alma?” I groaned firmly. “I know, but...” She exhaled sharply. “I came to share something with you.” “Is that why you harassed her?” I groaned. “Harassed her?” She exclaimed with shock and gawked at me. “She was the one who harassed me. And you saw it! She bit me and pushed me.” I wasn’t shocked with her reaction. She was a born pretender. “I don’t want to ever see you here again. Step into this manor again, and you’ll bear the consequences!” “Why?” she suddenly shot at me, her lips trembling. “Why are you so overprotective of this girl? You were never like that with me. Why do you even want to marry your sworn enemy’s daughter? There’s definitely something you are hiding.” My jaw clenched and I was trying so hard to contain my anger before I blew her f*****g brains out. “It is none of your f*****g business, Tania. Now leave this place while I am still allowing you to.” She shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. “Tania!” I growled, my furious gaze fixed on her. “We both know that this will not work on me.” “It hurts to see that the father of my child is being this mean to me,” she casually said, her lips trembling. The frown on my face deepened. “What did you just say?” “I am expecting, Lazzaro. And the child is yours.” She dropped the bombshell. I shook my head. “No, it’s not. The last time I had anything with you was three months ago.” “And I am three months pregnant,” she retorted. Fuck! This was really messed up. I had always made sure to be careful because I never wanted a child out of wedlock. Especially not with Tania. She’d use that child against me in the future. She was a witch that was never to be trusted. How did I ever get involved with her in the first place? It had to f*****g be the day we had s*x without protection. I was really drunk and she promised to use the morning-after pill. How did I f*****g trust her? Rage burst through my entire being, and the next thing, I was next to her, grabbing her shoulders and shaking her tremendously. “You didn’t f*****g use the pill, did you?” I growled. She shook her head, tears streaming down her face. “I forgot, and when I remembered, it was too late.” “f**k!” I groaned and released her. My fingers raked through my hair as I turned around and marched away from her before I f*****g killed her. Because the rage burning through me was so intense that I could drive a bullet through her f*****g head. After a moment, I turned to look at her, the look in my eyes cold and dark. “You have to get rid of the baby.” The flow of tears increased as she continued shaking her head. “I tried to. I didn’t even want you to know about it.” “But?” I urged. “The doctor said I have a condition called placenta accreta. The placenta is growing too deeply into my uterine wall. It’s stuck, and trying to remove it can cause massive bleeding. I could die if I tried to get rid of it,” she continued crying bitterly. “I don’t want to die, Lazzaro.”
