ALMA
I was scared out of my mind. I thought I was going to die with no one to save me. Until Lazzaro came. I hated everything about the underworld with my whole being. A girl couldn’t escape her abductor without being abducted by another. Just that these ones were out to kill me. I didn’t understand Russian, but I knew what ubit meant. It meant kill. And they used that a lot. They were going to murder me.
Mario took me to the car, and I willingly entered, knowing it would be stupid for me to try to run again. This was it. There was no escape for me. I was trapped here, until my father decided to come to my rescue. Something deep within me told me that that was not going to happen. My father had really sold me off to him. My greatest nightmare was happening, and there was nothing I could do to stop it or run away from it.
My mind suddenly wavered to what Lazzaro had said inside the warehouse. He said he was going to punish me, and I couldn’t help but wonder how he intended to punish me. His hands on me, the way he grabbed my arm, the way he slightly brushed his fingers against my cheeks as he tucked my hair behind my ear, was enough punishment for me. My body reacted to his touch in ways that it shouldn’t. What the hell was wrong with me? I was supposed to hate him. But here I was fantasizing about his touch.
I disgusted myself for feeling that way.
“Are you okay?” Mario asked, glancing at me once we were both inside the car.
“Obviously not,” I hissed as I cast my gaze at the window.
“What did they do to you? Were you tortured? Do you need a doctor?” he pressed.
“No,” I simply replied.
“I asked three questions, but you only replied to one. No, what?” he asked coldly.
“No. I don’t need a doctor,” I grunted.
They were all the same. Cold-ass motherfuckers.
The rest of the ride to the Visconti mansion was quiet. Once we arrived, one of the maids approached me with a coat and wrapped it around me.
“Are you okay?” she asked with concern in her voice.
Finally, Someone with blood running in her veins.
I nodded and swallowed. “I will be fine.”
I wrapped my arms around myself as we walked into the manor. I wanted to run away. But I knew it was dangerous, and I could only get myself killed. Someone out there was after me, and I didn’t even know if the beef those Russians had was with my father or Lazzaro. Either way, I have been in this world long enough to know that it wasn’t safe for me out there.
I only got lucky that Lazzaro was able to save me this time. The worst could happen next time.
Once inside the room they had kept me in before, I went straight to the bathroom to have a hot shower. I undressed myself in front of the mirror, looking at how miserable and ugly I looked.
The eyeliner had smeared all over my face, making me look like a spooky queen. Dried tears that had been stained with the black eyeliner were on my cheeks. I looked like a damn mess.
When I got under the shower, thoughts of Zita came flooding through my mind. The haunting memories of how she died made an excruciating pain tug at my heart.
My dear sweet sister. I missed her so much. I watched her die without being able to do anything about it. Our lives were always at risk because of the nature of the underworld that we were born into. But I never imagined that I would lose her so early.
I cried and cried under the shower, allowing the water to wash it all away, until I couldn’t feel my eyes anymore.
I didn’t know how long I was in there before finally stepping out of the shower and wrapping a white towel around my body. Then I walked out of the bathroom and into the bedroom.
I paused once I was inside the bedroom, my eyes narrowing when I saw the person inside the room, sitting on the bed.
She was blonde. She wore a tight tube leather red dress, with red lipstick.
“I patiently waited for you to finish from the bathroom. I didn’t want to punish my eyes with your ugly body,” she said, her voice dripping with contempt.
My eyes narrowed. “Excuse me. Who are you?”
“Lazzaro’s girlfriend,” she said as she stood up.
My heart sank to my stomach as jealousy washed over me. What was wrong with me?
I swallowed hard, holding my head straight to hide my jealousy. “And how is that my business?”
“I heard there was a girl here who he wanted to make his legal slut, and I had to come see for myself,” she said as she slowly circled me like a predator waiting to devour its prey. I wasn’t intimidated by her. “Even though that’s the case, just know that I am the one he will always want. We had a little fight a few days ago, that’s why I haven’t been around. Though we are having hot makeup s*x tonight to make up for the days we were away from each other.”
“You can have him all to yourself if you want. I’m here against my will. Leave me out of your love crises,” I spat as I began to walk away.
But she grabbed my arm, pulling me back forcefully. The towel around my body loosened and dropped to the floor, leaving me naked before her.
Just then, the door opened, and Lazzaro walked in. He paused when his eyes landed on my body, his intense gaze burning my skin.
Embarrassment flushed my cheeks red, and I quickly placed one hand over my boobs and the other on my crotch to cover them. I continued staring at him with wide eyes, too shocked to even act.
He had blood stains on his white shirt and I couldn’t help but wonder if he killed the guy he kept alive.
He swallowed hard and walked towards me. Then he crouched down, picked up the towel, and gently wrapped it around me. His hot gaze on me made my body subconsciously boil with desire.
His hand went to my cheek and caressed it, his eyes staring intently into mine. I could hear his labored breaths, could see the desire evident in his eyes.
Tingles rippled through my body, my chest beating dangerously against my ribcage.
The chemistry between us was dangerous. I had never felt anything like this before.
What the hell was wrong with me? It was as if I wasn’t in control of myself anymore. My body had a mind of its own.
“Lazzaro...” the blonde called, placing her hand on his arm.
He didn’t even say a word to me before abruptly turning to look at her.
“Tania,” he groaned.
“I thought you were out dealing with business,” she said in a small voice.
Without another word, he grabbed her hand and pulled her outside the room with him. My heart sank to the bottom as the thought of him having s*x with her flooded through my mind,
What I was most worried about was why that bothered me.
