Chapter 2

1383 Words
DYLAN Beta Austin is in his house, seated with his mate Sharon on the couch, deeply engrossed in a discussion. When they sense my presence, they turn to face me and Austin ushers me to the couch beside him. Sighing, I sit down and take another deep sigh. I don't know where to start in apologising on behalf of my stubborn brother who doesn't seem to listen to anyone...not even me, his blood brother! “I'm so sorry for what happened out there Austin. Davis was...” “...stressed out.” he cuts me short, finishing the sentence for me. Well, this boy is so good at reading minds.  I nod in shame. I don't like it when anyone belittles another especially if the person in question is dear to me. Austin is a calm and collected young man who's barely an adult.  He already has his life in place, not to mention that he has a beautiful mate, whom he met on his eighteenth birthday. “You don't have to worry about me prince Dylan. I understand you guys perfectly well. I wish I could do anything to help you two.” He says and I can feel the sincerity in his voice. Despite being younger than us, he's full of wisdom and he sounds more mature than his age. He's just the perfect choice for our beta...he is our Beta. “Thank you for understanding our situation. Can we have a talk in your office?” I say and he nods in agreement, biding his mate goodbye then leads me towards his father's office. His parents are not around today. They went to another pack to visit some relatives and they won't be back till tomorrow. He ushers me the couch and he takes a seat beside me. After a moment of silence, he turns to me and asks me what I have to say to him. I think my silence is quite disturbing. “I know this sounds weird but I need your advice.” I start. “What should my brother and I do? I think we're trending on dangerous grounds. I've been trying to stop sleeping around but everything has proven hard. I don't know what to do anymore and my brother is not helping out at all!” I finally manage to tell him everything at a go. He sighs as he contemplates on what to tell me.  “What did your parents tell you in there?” he asks. “A lot of stuff and advise which really made a lot of sense. I just wish my brother could team up with me and start seeing some sense. At least we...” “At least what Dylan?” I look up to meet a enraged Davis. He has been standing at the doorway all along. “If you needed advise, you should have at least ran to someone older than us and with a whole lot of experience. For goddess sake this one is just a boy and...” “I beg your pardon prince Davis!” Austin says calmly. “You can disrespect me all you want but you don't have to start calling me names. I don't like that at all!” “Are you addressing me in such a tone Austin? Do you know who I am?” Davis scoffs, walking menacingly towards Beta Austin who stands up as he waits for him. “I know you better my prince. You're prince Davis, twin brother to prince Dylan and the future Alpha of Plainview Pack. You are arrogant and you don't like the truth. A piece of advise my prince; if you continue like this, you might end up in the streets, without identity and...” “Shut the f**k up, will you?” Davis shouts as he stands face to face with Austin who's already daring him to try anything stupid. In our Pack, there's a policy that people shouldn't fight for any reason whatsoever. Even the alpha, prince, beta...no one is supposed to break that rule...no one. If one dares break it, he or she will receive a severe punishment, banishment being one of them. I don't want everything to get out of hand therefore I stand up and walk towards my brother. I close the space between them and urge Davis to calm down and take a seat on the couch. Growling angrily, he obeys though not whole heartedly and slumps on the couch, sighing heavily. “Do you guys know the implications of whatever you were about to do?” I ask them as Austin sits back on the couch as well. “We don't need to get into each other's nerves to be able to solve a problem.” I try to explain as I turn to my brother. “All I needed was advice from our Beta here and in his wisdom he was trying to advice me until you rudely interrupted!” Davis is seated beside me, facing the floor as he cups his face in his hands. I wonder if he's paying any attention at all! When he finally looks up, his eyes are red and he seems more sad than before. “Will this ever be over?” He finally manages to ask. “If only we heed to our parents advices, everything will be over!” I reply as a matter of fact. In my heart, I'm trying to turn a new leaf and go by all the advises given. I don't want to end up homeless when I finally turn twenty five! “But which of their advises should we heed to? The fact that we should stop sleeping with girls and look for a mate or the fact that we should look for one girl who's supposedly our mate? How can I share a girl with you brother, how?” He's back to cupping his face into his hands. “Sadly, that's what the tradition demands. We won't be the first Princes or Alphas to be fated to one mate!” I try to reason with him.  His face remains cupped in his hands for sometime before he sits straight once more. All this while, Beta Austin has been silent, busy scrolling through his phone. “I think Austin here can help us.” Davis says. “Despite him being young, he's wise and to be sincere, I sometimes wish I was him! So young yet so organised! I sincerely envy you Austin!” Oops! He's now pouring his heart out. Wow! This is new! Davis stands up and walks to sit at the other end where Austin is seated. Upon seeing that, Austin slips his phone back into his pocket and attentively listens to prince Davis. “I'm sorry for my outburst Austin. I know I've been indifferent to you since you met your mate. You've been our best friend despite the fact that you didn't like our wayward ways. You've always urged us to stop sleeping around and look for our mate as tradition demands but your pleas has been falling on deaf ears. Please tell us our friend, what should we do? Is it advisable to mate one girl? Can't we mate a girl each?” he asks, desperately tapping his feet on the ground. “As I was telling Prince Dylan before you interrupted, that's what tradition demands and there's no way you can escape it. I know several twin Princes who are mated to one girl. I also know triplets who has one girl for a mate. You won't be the first ones my Princes!” Austin explains calmly. “Oh no!” Davis sighs. “I'm really confused here. I don't know what to do at all!” “Just calm down brother, okay? We'll find a solution soon. We really need to do this...” I urge him. “If not for our Pack or parents, but for the throne. If you don't want to be an Alpha, I desperately want to be one!” I conclude. Davis just looks at me but he doesn't say anything. He seems to be deep in thoughts and I just hope whatever he's thinking about is worth it and we'll soon find a solution to our predicament!
