Drake Johnson (POV)
I had sent out my Gamma Lucas to follow and watch over my mate. It was a few days when he calls me to update me.
“Drake, She is visiting her sister again at the hospital,” Lucas tells me.
“How does she seem today?” I asked him.
“She seems to be hurt. She has a limp today. She may have twisted her ankle. I will keep a closer watch,”
“Is she alone today or is that scumbag Carl with her?” I asked him. I have heard of Carl Phillips, and he is no good. How she ended up engaged to him is beyond me. But I can’t help shaking this bad feeling about this situation.
“She is alone. But according to her work schedule, she will be going to work after her visit,”
“Meet me at the restaurant after. And take Wayne with you. Make sure to reserve a table in her section.”
“Yes, Alpha,”
We hung up and I finished my Alpha duties then I went up to my room to shower and change. I was excited to see my mate again. A part of me keeps hoping she will feel the bond between us. I know she is human and will feel it differently than we werewolves do. I put on a black dress shirt and left the top two buttons undone and folded up the sleeves up to the elbows exposing the two tattoos I have on both my forearms. The one on the right is a wolf howling at the moon. And the one on the left is two wolves entwined in a heart. It represents me and my future mate. I have left my upper left arm empty for a tattoo of my and my mate’s names also entwined together as a mating gift.
I pull on my black jeans and zip them up, then put on my black boots. My hair is combed back, and I have a five o’clock stubble just how I like it, look at myself in the mirror and see my blue eyes staring back at me. I look ok. I take a deep breath, put my wallet in my jeans, grab the keys to my car and head out. My heart is racing at the thought of seeing my mate.
I arrived at the restaurant and walk in. I give my name and was led to the table where my beta and gamma sat with a drink waiting for me.
“Alpha,” Wayne said as I sat down.
“Call me Drake when we are out. Not Alpha.” I said and both men nodded as I look up and see my mate walking toward us.
“Can I get you a drink, sir?” She was looking down at her notepad as I spoke.
“I would like a draft beer, please,” I spoke, and she finally looked up and caught my eyes.
I noticed her eyes widen as I smiled at her. She slowly backed away, nodding, “Yes, sir, right away sir,” She turned and left quickly.
“I think she feels the bond and it is confusing to her, She didn’t respond to us the way she did with you,” Wayne spoke up.
I had to agree with him. She acted like she felt the bond between us. I know I do, and I want nothing more than to grab, hold, and kiss her. My wolf Cole wants to mate and mark her.
When she arrived with my beer my elbow accidentally hit her side and she hissed as if in pain.
“Are you all right, miss?” I asked frowning.
“Yes, Silly me I was clumsy and bruised my side on the corner of my kitchen countertop this morning.”
I nod at her not believing her. After what my beta has told me I am suspecting that Carl is abusing her. And if I catch him in the act, he is a dead man.
“Are you all ready to order?” She asked while holding her pad and pen in her hand.
We tell her our order and I can’t help but watch her for any more signs of injuries. She keeps glancing my way and biting her bottom lip. Yes, she does feel the connection between us. It is her body language that tells me.
She walks away to place our food order and I begin, “I need her watched more. I cannot help but feel Carl is abusing her.”
Lucas looks in her direction and back at me before he answers, “I was thinking the same thing. If I spot him getting rough with the Luna, I may not be able to control myself.”
“I understand that. The Luna is our priority right now. We must protect her. I just need a way to get her to break it up with Carl unless he is holding something overhead.” I look over at Wayne, “I need you to research Carl and his business and his friends and if any enemies.”
“Yes, Alpha. I will dig deep.”
A few minutes later Laria comes with our food and sets it down in front of each of us. As she sets it down in front of me, I make sure to touch her accidentally of course, just so she will feel the sparks. She looks at me with a stunned expression. I give her my best smile and she gasps and turns and walks away.
A few minutes later I guess she needed to compose herself, She asks, “Will there be anything else?”
I couldn’t help but notice she was standing closer to Wayne on the other side of the table. I guess she is trying to avoid any accidental contact with me.
“No, we are good for now. Although we each could use more beer.” I say to her.
She glances my way quickly then nod, “Of course, sir.”
