My Story
“Hey… um hi, I’m Judy. It’s nice to meet you,” I said, standing in front of them.
They were the most popular girls in my class—Maya, Jessi, and Nancy. Not just in our class, but in the entire school. Teachers liked them, seniors admired them, and everyone either wanted to be like them or be close to them.
They were different. Too different.
People didn’t just become their friends easily. They had standards—strict ones. If you didn’t fit, you didn’t get close.
Maya and Jessi came from a royal background, from a powerful family line that everyone respected. Nancy, on the other hand, was on another level entirely. She was the leader among them.
Her father was a senator abroad, and her family was extremely influential. She was the richest among them, the most popular, and the “face” of the school. She represented the school in events, donated often, and everyone adored her.
And the three of them had been friends since childhood. You couldn’t separate them.
For me, ever since I joined this school, I had wanted to be part of them. But I was too shy, too soft, and I knew they probably wouldn’t accept me.
So I worked on myself.
I joined school programs. I took leadership roles. I tried to build a name so I could finally approach them.
But there was something else too.
Ray.
My long-time crush.
He was very close to them. Always around them, always smiling with them. I could never get close to him. Sometimes I felt like he noticed me… like he wanted to talk to me… but he was always surrounded by them.
It frustrated me.
So I made a decision.
If I couldn’t get closer to Ray directly, then maybe I could get closer through them. And if I became popular like them, maybe I would finally be seen too.
That was my plan.
And today… I decided it was time.
I had built enough confidence. Enough reputation.
So I walked up to them.
“Judy?” Jessi said, surprised.
I forced a bright smile even though my heart was shaking. “Yes… hi.”
“Wow, Judy,” Nancy said with a small laugh. “I didn’t think you’d ever talk to us.”
I was shocked. “Why wouldn’t I? I’ve always wanted to talk to you guys.”
They exchanged strange looks.
“So, Judy—the model of the school—wants to talk to us now?” Maya said with a sly smile, her tone sharp. “To what do we owe the pleasure?”
My confidence cracked a little.
Why are they reacting like this? I thought they were nice to everyone…
“Did I come at the wrong time?” I thought nervously. My hands were already shaking.
“I shouldn’t have come…” I whispered inside.
Then Nancy spoke again, softer this time.
“Are you okay, Judy?”
I looked at her, slightly frozen.
“I’m really sorry about our reaction,” she said calmly. “We already know you. You’re quite popular too. We’re happy to talk to you.”
My heart lifted immediately.
“Really? You’ll listen to me?” I asked quickly.
She nodded.
“We’re at the cafeteria, we should eat,” Jessi added while eating. “Your food will get cold.”
I chose to approach them at the cafeteria so I can be safe in case I get rejected by them.
I nodded quickly and started eating too, trying to calm myself.
This is it… don’t mess it up. This is a big opportunity.
We ate quietly for a while. I kept observing them.
Wow… they’re even calm when eating. They really are different.
After some time, Nancy finished first. She wiped her lips gently and looked at me.
“Are you done eating?”
I quickly nodded even though I wasn’t fully done. “Yes, I am.”
I sat properly, facing them.
“So, Judy,” Nancy said, “what do you want to talk about?”
I took a deep breath.
“I don’t really need anything from you,” I said carefully. “I just want to make a request.”
“What request?” Jessi asked curiously.
I hesitated.
Then I said it.
“Can I be part of your crew?”
Silence.
They all paused and looked at me.
Then… they smiled.
I was shocked.
“Are you guys okay with that?” I asked in disbelief.
“It’s been a long time since someone made such a request,” Nancy said, sipping her juice calmly.
“You must have gathered a lot of courage to sit here and ask,” Maya added with a laugh.
I immediately started disliking her tone.
But Jessi smiled warmly.
“Of course you can join us, Judy.”
My eyes widened. “Wait… for real?”
“Yes, for real,” Nancy said softly. “We’re happy to have you.”
I couldn’t believe it.
My dream was happening just like that.
But Maya kept laughing quietly.
I ignored her.
“This is unbelievable…” I thought happily.
But then Maya spoke again, her voice colder.
“Are you sure you still want this, Judy?”
Nancy frowned. “Leave her alone.”
Jessi also snapped. “Maya, stop it.”
Nancy added coldly, “Don’t spoil the mood.”
Maya stood up slowly, still smiling.
“Fine. I’m leaving,” she said. Then she looked at me.
“Judy… leave now or you’ll regret it. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
And she walked away.
I stared after her, confused.
“What is going on?” I thought.
“Don’t mind her,” Jessi said quickly, holding my hand. “She’s just jealous.”
Nancy nodded. “So, do you want to change your mind?”
I felt a strange chill when she looked at me.
Something about her expression felt… off.
“Do you want to leave?” Jessi asked softly.
She was still holding my hand gently.
“I’ll stay,” I said slowly.
Nancy smiled.
Jessi became excited. “Finally! Someone new is joining us!”
I smiled too…
But deep inside, Maya’s words still echoed.
And I couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right.
