Chapter 17 - Wind of change

1621 Words
Last few days were quite uneventful. I’ve had a few assignments for school to finish, so while Logan was dealing with pack business, I was researching and finishing papers. I left pack territory a couple of times - to go to school, and to pick up some clothes. Both of the times, Shona was with me, but I asked Logan if someone else could be a chaperone, to help us carry things to the car. Luckily, he was a bit overprotective so he thought it was a good idea - a guy with us could help us and carry I have to be honest, I wasn’t ready to talk to Shona, I was hurt. I know she wasn’t allowed to tell me anything, but I still feel betrayed. I am aware I won’t be able to avoid her forever, but I needed a few more days.  Cillian and Logan were most of the time together on a business, so that gave me a chance to get to know Carla. I really like her, she was quite down to earth, but funny. We have a lot of things in common and I am sure we will be quite close friends in the future. Her son Liam was the cutest thing ever and holding him has become one of my favorite pastimes.   I also spent a lot of time with my parents, Eagon and Anya and I have learned a lot about werewolf life, customs, history.. What I found the most interesting, were stories the four of them shared from younger days. They were extremely close, and I am glad they are finally at the same place together.  I told my mother that I was sorry they had to give up so much of their life because of me. She only said that she would do it again in a heartbeat and that there was nothing more important than my safety.  I have to be completely honest, my favorite part of it all was time spent with Logan. We’ve spent together all of our free time. Sometimes we were with our parents or Cill and Carla, a few times I did some small errands with him which gave me the opportunity to meet a few pack members, but most of the time we were alone, getting to know each other. We talked a lot, and the more I knew him, the more I liked him. Much like Carla, he was down to Earth (I have a filing this was a result of the way Eagon and Anya have raised them), funny, gentle, smart. I was fascinated with the ideas he had for the future of the pack. He was hoping to establish North America’s supernatural union. He explained that in the past, most of the packs were enemies with each other, and other supernatural beings. There were wars raging all the time and the losses were enormous. His grandfather was apparently one of the old school Alphas - he was all about violence and killing. At only 16, Eagon heard his father’s plans - he was about to sacrifice his own daughter Adriane to gain a few more acres of territory. She was only 13 at the time and he was about to give her to the Alpha of the neighbouring pack, who was 46 at the time. Eagon has challenged his father and luckily, he was one of the rear wolves who turn at 16 (nobody knows why that happens, even today).  When it comes to challenging an Alfa, there are only two rules - the fight is one on one and it doesn’t end until one of the participants dies. Everyone believed that Eagon wouldn't survive, but from the start, he showed speed, strength, agility and endurance. Most importantly, he kept his head cool and in the end, that’s what made the difference. His father was driven by pure rage and hatred and was sure he would win the fight. By the time it was obvious that Eagon would win, Cosmo had asked for mercy. Eagon had a pure heart, hoped his father would realize how wrong he was,  so he agreed. At the second he turned his back, Cosmo tried to attack him and that was it for him. Eagon has become one of the youngest Aphas of the pack in history and began with the reconciliation of the packs. Nowadays, most of  North America's packs were on a friendly basis. The only expectation was a Dark wolf pack. Their Alpha Dominic was rude, cruel, selfish and abusive. Logan has said that he’s concerned why he’s been so quiet for a while now - he’s probably up to something. Everyone is on a full alert, but except occasional rouge attacks, it was uneventful.  And, we kissed a lot. Sometimes, there were only a few pecks here and there and sometimes, we’ve had full making out sessions. Those times, I always believed that the time stooped. At first, I was nervous, but now, that was all I could think about. I was craving for him all the time.  At the moment, Carla, Liam and I were coming back to the pack house. It was a beautiful, sunny and warm day so we took a stroll to the lake where we spent the whole morning. We were laughing about something, when the most irritating voice interrupted us: “Well, hello, hello! Should I bend a knee for my Queen?”  “Jo, I think my brother was clear the other day! Stop acting like a fool before it’s too late!” Carla snapped.  “But I am doing as said. Being respectful in front of her majesty! Show some respect, girls. Curtsy is expected!” of course she wasn’t alone. Both she and Sam bowed, while Nicole stood behind, looking quite pissed.  “The Queen isn’t allowed to talk? This is the second time we’ve met and you haven’t spoken a word.” Jo asked me.  “What do you want?” I’ve asked.  “Nothing. I just want to see how you’ve been doing? As an old friend? You know how does that work?” “No, she doesn’t. Remember? She had no friends. Nobody liked her back at school.” her sister replied.  “Girls, let’s go!” Nicole said, but the twins from Hell ignored her.  Jo has reached the stroller and made a movement to lift Liam and Carla grabbed her arm:  “Keep your dirty hands away from my son!” “Dirty hands?” she put out the whole show of examining them. “Your brother finds them good enough to touch him!” Anger stirred through me: “Watch your mouth! I won’t warn you again!” Liam must have felt all the commotion and started to cry. Carla was holding him and trying to calm him down but the tears rolled down his chubby cheeks. His cries broke my heart. I was about to tell Jo to f**k off so we can go home when I felt her hand around my neck. She was much taller than me and apparently a lot stronger because I couldn't free myself from her grip.  “Jo, what are you doing!” Nicole screamed. “You’re gonna get yourself killed.” Even Sam looked terrified, but Jo continued like nothing was going on:SHe touched the base of my neck with another hand.  “He still didn’t mark you. That can only mean two things - he finds you disgusting and he doesn’t want to touch you or, he did f**k you and didn’t like it. I knew it!” “This is your last warning. Shut up, or you’ll regret it!” I gritted through my teeth.   “Or what? You are a disgrace to our race! Look at you. You can’t even defend yourself! Your own mate doesn’t won’t you. Few more days, and he’ll crawl back to, begging for forgiveness!” By now, the anger was boiling inside of me. I closed my eyes, trying to calm down. Jo finally set me free but she didn’t shut up: “You honestly believe the most powerful Alpha that has ever lived will take a mutt like yourself for a mate? What kind of pups could you give him? Weak like yourself? Leave the territory with dignity becouse you know he’ll be mine by the end of the week.” I knew I was about to punch her so I took a deep breath. When I started to exhale, Jo literally flew away from me, as she was pushed by a strong gust of wind. She fell on the floor, a few feet away and for the first time ever, I could see fear in her eyes.  I turned to Carla, who looked at me astonished. Liam was still crying, so I started to push his stroller: “Let’s go home, I need some coffee!” She followed behind me, but stop for a second next to Nicole:  “I always thought you were smarter than these two. I have no idea why you hang out with them but try to explain to them what are the consequences of acting like this in front of future Luna; your Alpha’s sister and Beta’s wife!”
