Chapter 12 - Questions

1232 Words
Grace POV “Logan, please..” my cry was interrupted by the door slamming.  What have I done? He thinks I want to break up with him. I mean, it’s ridiculous to speak of a break up when I am not even sure we are together. That’s what I wanted to know. Are we together or not. It might have come out wrong, but I just want to understand. And he didn’t even let me finish. Twenty minutes later, he still wasn’t back so I’ve decided to go to bed. We’ll talk in the morning. I can fix this.  Sharp, stabbing pain woke me. I’ve jumped out of the bed confused. Where am I? What is going on. The pain came back even stronger. God, Logan. Did something happen to him? Please, God, no, no.  All of a sudden I've heard a mournful howl. Every cell in my body felt the paint that was emitted from it.. I’ve opened the door that led to the balcony and stepped outside. Lights in the village were turning, one by one. Both people and wolves were stepping outside of the houses. The ones in wolf form were howling sadly as a response to the one, I’ve assumed Logan made. I was afraid and in pain. “Logan, please, come back. Please, Come back to me.” I’ve whispered.  Across the street, stood a beautiful woman, next to the large, grey wolf. She looked at me, and after a while said: ”Let’s go home, baby, he said he was fine and that he’s coming back!” Although she was speaking to her mate, the message for me was quite clear.  Logan is coming back.  I waited on the balcony for what seemed to be an eternity, but when I realized he obviously isn’t coming back to me, I’ve returned to bed, tossing and turning, and waiting for the morning.  Half sleeping, I thought I’ve heard Logan: “I believe I’ve told you to go to bed!” Someone was obviously answering, but I could only hear him from somewhere in the house. He must be in front of his apartment.  “I’m fine, please go to bed. Don’t worry.” I stood and ran towards the door, but when I opened them, the corridor was empty.  “What has happened? You really want to know?” Logan said louder and I’ve run towards his voice. “She doesn’t want me. I really didn’t know how to deal with that at the moment so I went for a run. I’m sorry I woke you, to be honest, I forgot that the howl will  be felt and heard by the whole pack. I’ll mind link them in the morning and apologize. Now, please, go to sleep.” As I came closer, I’ve heard a female voice. “Honey, what do you mean, she doesn’t want you?” I found myself at the bottom of the stairs and saw Logan and his mom in a sitting area next to the entrance.  “She doesn’t want me.” he said with a broken voice. “Does she know what the rejection could do to you?” Anya asked.  “No, and, mom, I’m warning you, you are not allowed to tell her. You or anybody else.”  “But..” “No buts, mom, please. I don’t want a mate who is with me out of pity. She obviously doesn’t feel the mate bond. If she was, you know what would the idea of leaving me do to her. This is a colossal f**k up.” “But you will die!” Anya said with a cry.  “Mom, I wo..” Logan was interrupted by my loud inhale. “Y-you’re dying?” I could feel tears falling from my eyes.  “Grace! What did you hear? What are you even doing here?” he asked. “Everything. Nothing. I don’t know. Tell me what’s going on!” I almost screamed.  “Please, don’t be so loud. You’ve been standing here all along? Did you notice her?” He turned to Anya who said: “No!”  Logan took my hand and asked: “How long have you been down here?” “I just came. I was upstairs waiting for you when I heard you talking to someone. I thought you were in front of the apartment, but you weren’t.” I wiped my tears and continued: “So, I just followed your voice and saw it was your mom. And then she said you were dying..” “Shhhhh” his finger was on my lips. “No one’s dying, don’t worry. I’ll explain everything, but firstly, I want to know something, ok?” I’ve nodded. “You’ve heard us from our, sorry, mine bedroom talking?”  I’ve pushed him away and stood by the window. Everything was peaceful again outside. I wish the same thing was happening inside.  “You know, I’ve spent last couple of hours worried about you. I thought I hurt you. And now I’m thinking, how in the world did I hurt you when you didn’t even let me finish? I’ve asked you a question, you got insulted and you left.  And like two hours  ago, everything was ours, now it’s yours again? I didn't even moved in,  yet you’ve kicked me out. Lucky me.   “What..” he tried to ask something but I wasn’t done.  “O shut up! You didn’t let me finish  earlier, now you will listen!”  I’ve turned to his mother: “You know, I’ve spent the last couple of hours crying. I thought I hurt his feelings, that he misunderstood my question. And you want to know what I’ve asked him? I just wanted to know if I have a choice. If he didn’t run away, I would have asked him, does he have a choice. I don’t want to be someone's obligation.” I wasn’t aware I was crying again until Anya hugged me:  “Don’t cry sweetie. You’ve had a long day. Tomorrow, After you get some rest, a lot of things will make more sense that they do now. Logan. Could you please go to the kitchen and bring us some tea!” She turned back to me and continued:  “I assume Logan told you about the mate bond? I won't go into details, I’ve promised I won’t talk about it but trust me, you have to listen to him. What you have is too special to be waisted just because you didn’t talk it through.  Ok?”  I nodded because, I honestly, didn’t know what else to do.
