CHAPTER TWELVE

*Cain’s POV*

All day I could sense that my mate was worried and I had tried to calm her down before heading to this meeting I had with representatives from all the packs in the kingdom on how to tighten security against the rogues.

Somehow I felt her worry grow but I couldn’t escape this meeting because I was almost certain the rogues wanted her and I would do anything to keep her safe, so I decided to talk to her the first chance I got after this meeting.

However, the meeting lasted longer than I anticipated and it was now time for dinner, I’d just have to talk to her after dinner. I walked to my room but I couldn’t catch her scent maybe she went out with her friend  again, deciding I’d talk to her after dinner I Immediately went to get ready.

I was at the dining room in no time eager to see her but she wasn’t there yet. Wondering where she was and why she wasn’t here yet I noticed her enter the room but she didn’t have the usual glow about her she looked very worried but tried to force a smile but even that seemed too much for her as the smile disappeared as quickly as it came. She sat beside me and I tried to comfort her but she didn’t notice me lost in whatever it was she was thinking neither did she join the conversation around her.

She was out of the room the minute dinner was over and didn’t say as much as a good night to anyone and I knew something was terribly wrong. I started to follow her but was stopped when the beta of the silver moon pack called me. “Alpha, a word please” he says “can’t it wait?” I growled impatiently wanting to be by her side “it important” he replies and I had no choice but to listen to him.

We stepped to a corner of the room to get a little privacy. “So, what is so important?” I ask “I didn’t want to mention this in the meeting because I thought you should be the first one to know” he says cautiously making me grow edgy as I sensed whatever he had to say wasn’t good. “Go on” I say urging him on impatiently. “After the recent attack on our pack our alpha wanted to know why we were attacked. It turns out that some years back we let a wounded lone wolf join our pack. He came to us after the attack and told us the rogues where after a gifted baby he lost at a river bank the night before he joined our pack. He also said if the rogue leader should find that child before we do nobody would be able to stop him from taking over the kingdom” he finally finished and my wolf was immediately anxious. 

I had a feeling the baby or child in question was my mate and she was in trouble. I felt useless for the first time in my life and unable to do anything for her, “send word to your pack, I want him here by evening tomorrow” I growled in frustration and the entire room fell silent.

I walked back to the table grabbed a glass of wine and gulped it down before I dashed out of the room. I needed to see her be sure she was fine but I was suddenly feeling light headed, I ignored the feeling and continue walking to her room however the feeling became worse, my vision became clouded and darkness was consuming me.  I was now struggling to keep my eyes open but failed miserably and hit the ground just as I reached the fourth floor and the darkness overwhelmed me.

*Lilly’s POV*

“Belle was really stiff at dinner tonight and I’m worried something is wrong” I say to my mate as we reached our room. Tyler and I shared a room since the alpha relieved me from my duties as a maid and it has been great. Just yesterday he marked me and we were also now fully mated but I was yet to tell Belle I wanted to tell her today but decided not to since we were with Alex. Although Belle trusts her now I didn’t really trust her and would share my secrets with Belle and Belle only.

“I’m sure she’s fine” he says “and what was that with the alpha?” I ask looking at him get ready for bed as I did too. “I really don’t know but I’m sure he would let me know when he’s ready but for now I really need to sleep so come here” he says patting my side of the bed as he got into his side. I giggled as I walked over to him and placed a soft kiss on his lips “I’ll be with you soon, let me run back to the kitchen for a bottle of water” I say “ok but hurry back don’t make me miss you too much” he says sleepily and I roll my eyes leaving him.

I got to the kitchen grabbed the bottle of water and a bar of chocolate, you can’t blame me I had a sweet tooth. I started back for my room when a sharp pain hit me in the back of my head blurring my vision. I collapsed to the floor and the last thing a saw was a hazy image coming towards me as I fainted. 

*Tyler’s POV*

I didn’t realize I had fallen asleep so when I looked around and didn’t see my mate beside me I thought I had just drifted off for a little bit however I wanted her by my side so I got up put on a vest and joggers and went to get her. She had said she was going to the kitchen, so I went to look for her there but she wasn’t there and her scent there has faded which meant she has left. Worried I quickly sniffed the air trying to get her scent which I caught whiff of and followed.

Her scent was leading me back upstairs but past our room which was on the third floor, it was leading me to the fourth floor. I wondered why she would go to the alpha’s floor but thought she had gone to see Belle. Just as I reached the hall on the fourth floor I saw Belle dash out of her room and into the alpha’s room, panic filled me because that meant my mate wasn’t with Belle. I immediately rushed down the hall and rushed into the alpha’s room without thinking, my only thought was to ask Belle where Lilly was but was shocked by what I saw.

Belle and I stood not really noticing each other’s presence as we looked at our mates naked bodies curled up around each other.

*Belle’s POV*

I was standing there looking at someone I thought was my friend and someone who was meant to love me to the end betray me in the worse way imaginable. I didn’t know what to do or how to react I was just dump struck, frozen to my position I didn’t realize that Tyler was now in the room with me until I saw him grab a sheet off the floor to cover up his mate before dragging mine of the bed and landing a hard punch in his face.

“I have watched you have any and whatever you wanted all this years but did you have to prove your authority sleeping with my mate too” he yells into Cain’s sleepy but hard face. The noise jolted Lilly up from her sleep and she looked surprised by the scene in front of her but mostly by her naked state. She looked at her mate who was still yelling and throwing punches that was blocked at Cain and then at me.

Quickly covering herself with the sheet her mate had put on her she rushed to my side “what’s going on here B? Why am I naked in your mate’s room?” she asks and anger was quickly rising in me. Why did she choose to pretend she didn’t know what she had done? As if he was just noticing me or the situation Cain shoved the wailing beta aside and rushed to my side also looking hurt and confused as he stared into my eyes seemingly asking for an explanation. “I’ll tell you what’s going on here you traitors” Tyler says walking to where we were “you two decided your mates weren’t good enough and betrayed us by mating each other instead” he says again as I watched Cain eyes grow wide and Lilly shake her head vigorously.

Realizing for the first time since he was dragged off the bed that he was naked, Cain dashed to his closet but reappeared in no time wearing a joggers and a loose tee shirt. “Beauty, I swear I don’t know what is going on here. I was coming to se…” he was saying but I held up my hand stopping him and Tyler now in partial wolf form dug his claws into Cain’s back “you bastard” he yells and was going in for another punch but was lifted off the ground and tossed to the other side of the room. Lilly on the other hand was soaking in her own tears pleading for the chaos to stop. She tried to stop her mate from launching another futile attack against the alpha but was pushed aside. She pleaded with me to make them stop saying she had no clue what was going on but I was too heartbroken to speak or even move I just stood there watching Cain slap Tyler into unconsciousness.

I finally decided I had seen enough but I wasn’t willing to hear anything from either traitor so I ran out of the room with before Cain could stop me. I entered my room, locked it and jumped on the bed crying myself to oblivion.
