David cupped my face with both hands and crushed his lips against mine, kissing me deeply. I opened my mouth, and his tongue slid inside. The kiss was rough and wet. Breathing became an issue, but neither of us seemed to care. The kiss was intense, messy, and every movement of his lips and tongue sent shivers down my spine. Breathing felt like a luxury, a distant second to the overwhelming sensation of his mouth on mine. God, he tasted good—like coffee mixed with something uniquely him.
“You can’t run away, Isabella,” he whispered against my lips, his voice husky and laced with a warning that made my stomach twist.
Without a word, he let go of my wrists and leaned back. Quickly, he grabbed my waist and flipped me over, pulling me up onto my elbows and knees, positioning me exactly how he wanted me. Rough hands tore at the button and zipper of my pants. He yanked down my jeans and my ridiculously expensive thong, his body hovering over mine. His hands caressed my ass, and his teeth dragged over the sensitive skin of one cheek, right above the tattoo of his name. One hand slid underneath to cradle my s*x, the pressure of his fingers already making me see stars. When he began to stroke me, working me harder, I couldn’t hold back my moan. He bit my ass, leaving a sharp, burning sensation. I gasped.
“I don’t think just friends do things like this.”
A finger slipped inside me. Not enough, damn it.
He pushed in a second, stretching me slightly. Once, twice, he pumped them slowly. I rocked back against his hand, needing more. Then came the sound of the nightstand drawer opening as he reached for a condom. His fingers left me, and the loss was unbearable.
I heard the sound of a zipper, the rustling of fabric, the crinkle of foil. Then his c**k pressing against me, teasing my entrance.
Twelve hours earlier.
David was preparing for his first day at Enterprise Motors. When he received the call to join a new team in an emerging division, he couldn’t believe his luck. Enterprise Motors wasn’t just any company—it was a giant in construction and pharmaceutical development, and he, a recent graduate, had managed to get in.
Without realizing it, he bumped into someone. When he looked up, he recognized Isabella Meyer. They had been classmates in college and fierce competitors.
“What the hell are you doing here?” they asked in unison, their voices clashing like swords.
She looked at him with disdain, checked her watch, and kept walking toward the elevators.
“I don’t have time to waste today,” she muttered, but he heard her.
David followed her, noticing the changes in her appearance. She wasn’t the girl in worn-out jeans and baggy sweatshirts anymore. Now, she wore an impeccable tailored suit that accentuated every curve. He had never noticed how small her waist was.
When they reached the 23rd floor, people began greeting her with respect. Isabella walked with the confidence of someone who knew they were in control. David, not understanding why, followed her.
“How long have you been working here?” he asked, trying to break the ice.
She stopped and looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
“Why are you on this floor?” she whispered, cold as steel.
“Human Resources sent me this information,” he replied, showing her his phone. “I didn’t know you’d been hired too.”
“Human Resources?” she repeated, confused. “There must be a mistake.”
“No, James hired me personally.”
The name made Isabella’s eyes widen.
“James Meyer?” she asked, almost in a whisper.
“Yes, the owner’s grandson. He conducted the interviews and selected me himself.”
“Why am I not surprised?” she murmured, with a mix of disappointment and annoyance.
James was a first-class egomaniac and narcissist. He only surrounded himself with people who shared his life philosophy: using others for his own gain. Isabella and he had never been close, and now David understood why she despised him so much.
“James is on the 22nd floor. You can go see him if you want,” she said with a sarcastic smile.
At that moment, an older man approached.
“I’m glad you’re already getting along,” he said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Let’s head to the meeting room. The other two team members are already there.”
“What are you talking about?” Isabella asked, frowning.
“Your grandfather believes that, when starting a new division, you need to learn how to deal with all kinds of people. That’s why he decided to swap the staff each of you selected.”
“Are you saying I’ll have to work with the people James chose?” she asked, incredulous.
The man smiled, amused.
“If we had told you, you would have cheated. That’s why we didn’t warn you. Now, let’s go. You need to meet the rest of the team.”
David swallowed hard. His mind processed the information at full speed: Isabella was the owner’s granddaughter. James’ cousin. He had underestimated her for years, flaunting her family’s money as if it were a trophy. Now, she had him right where she wanted him: under her command.
When they entered the meeting room, they saw a blonde woman in a tight dress, her eyes lighting up when she noticed David’s Rolex. Beside her, a man with gold rings on his fingers stood up to greet the treasurer by name, with a smile that screamed “slick.”
“Well, now that we’re all here,” the treasurer began, “I have a couple of announcements. I represent Mr. Meyer’s interests, and he wants to extend a warm welcome. But he trusts that his dear granddaughter, Isabella, will make you feel at home.”
She scoffed and sat down, crossing her arms.
“I understand that some of you have a close relationship with James,” the treasurer continued. "Whether as friends or partners. That’s why we wanted to provide a more impartial environment.”
Isabella cursed under her breath. James had cheated in the selection process to help his friends instead of taking the situation seriously. Typical of that bastard.
“Miss Isabella is leading the new robotics division,” the treasurer announced. “We expect your full support.”
Murmurs filled the room, and David felt the ground shift beneath his feet. This was going to be much more complicated than he had imagined.
There was a knock at the door, and as soon as it opened, everyone fell silent in surprise.
