CHAPTER 6. The Night She Let Go

708 Words
The party upstairs had thinned out, leaving the music booming and the lights low. Isabella swirled the last drops of champagne in her glass, listening to the laughter echoing through the grand room. Her heels were off, hair tumbling over her shoulders, and for the first time all evening, she felt untethered. He was across the room, leaning casually against the railing, watching her with that impossible grin that made her pulse spike. She tried to look away, to act composed, but her body betrayed her. She wanted him—wanted to throw all rules to the wind—and tonight, finally, she could. “You’ve been avoiding me all night,” he said, appearing beside her like he had some kind of supernatural timing. “Maybe I like to observe,” she shot back, smirking. “Learn people before I decide if they’re worth my attention.” “Smart,” he said, tilting his head. “But a waste of time when the right person is standing right in front of you.” Her breath caught. “Is that supposed to be charming?” “Maybe,” he admitted, stepping closer. “Or maybe it’s honest. Which one scares you more?” She laughed softly, but the laugh didn’t reach her eyes. It was honesty she feared. Not charm. Not consequences. Just him, standing too close, looking too intense, making her feel things she didn’t know she could feel. Before she could answer, he brushed a strand of hair from her face, fingertips grazing her cheek. Electricity shot through her like a live wire. Her pulse quickened. “You’re dangerous,” she murmured. “Not me,” he countered, voice low, teasing. “You are.” Her lips parted slightly. The heat in her chest twisted into something darker—desire, thrill, and the undeniable thrill of rebellion. She wasn’t supposed to want this. She wasn’t supposed to throw herself at someone she barely knew. But for the first time, she didn’t care. He took her hand. “Come with me,” he said. No question. No invitation. A command that she wanted to obey. The hallway was empty. Music thumped faintly from below, but the world shrank until it was just the two of them. He led her to a quiet suite at the far end of the hall, and suddenly, every ounce of composure she’d clung to all evening evaporated. “You’re insane,” she whispered, heart hammering, though a small grin tugged at her lips. “Maybe,” he said, pulling her closer. “Or maybe I’m exactly what you need.” Their lips met before she could respond, and the world shifted. It was fire, sharp and consuming. Her hands tangled in his hair, his in her dress, and the hotel suite became a blur of heat, laughter, and desperate, intoxicating touches. She had never felt so alive. So reckless. So… free. Every rule she’d ever lived by—quiet, obedient, overlooked—was gone. Every expectation, every invisible chain her family had wrapped around her, shattered in the span of a heartbeat. They didn’t speak. Words were useless. Laughter, gasps, whispered names filled the room instead. The night stretched on, a dangerous, thrilling blur of skin, kisses, and reckless abandon. Somewhere in the chaos, Isabella realized she didn’t want to stop. She didn’t want to think. She didn’t want the world outside this room. And for the first time, she felt completely, entirely, undeniably herself. Hours later, tangled in sheets, the hum of the city faint through the window, she looked at him and let herself smile. “You’re insane,” she repeated softly, voice heavy with laughter, exhaustion, and something unspoken. “And you’re dangerous,” he countered, brushing a kiss across her temple. “Exactly what I need.” She laughed, soft and dark, and rolled onto her side, finally letting herself sink into the storm of heat, desire, and reckless, thrilling freedom that had begun the moment she met him. Tonight, there were no rules. No expectations. No invisible walls. Just them. And for the first time in her life… Isabella didn’t have to hide. She didn’t have to be anyone but herself. And it felt beautifully, terrifyingly perfect.
