Chapter 3: The Blood Pact at the Border

786 Words
‎‎The hidden outpost was inside a big cave under some old bushes. There was a fire in the middle of the cave. The fire made shadows on the walls. It was dry in the cave. It smelled like ash and dirt and wolves. ‎ ‎Elena sat by the fire. She had a blanket around her. The fire was warm. It did not make her feel better. She felt cold inside where her wolf was. ‎ ‎Jade was on the side of the fire. She was cleaning herself with a cloth. She looked at the entrance of the cave a lot. There were three wolves in the cave. They were all very tired. They did not talk. In the Neutral Zone, people do not waste energy on talking. ‎ ‎Jade said, "I was lucky I was looking around. There are a lot of guards at the border tonight. Everyone knows what Alpha Julian did. He said Elena was his, then he threw away his mate." ‎ ‎Elena held the blanket tight. She did not like hearing Julian's name. "Let them talk ", she said. "Julian made his choice. He thinks he is safe now." ‎ ‎An old wolf with a hurt shoulder said, "I have seen this before. An Alpha who trades his soul for power will pay for it. The Moon Goddess will not forget." ‎ ‎Elena said, "The Moon Goddess is not here to help us. We have to help ourselves." ‎ ‎Jade smiled. "You are strong, Elena. I thought you would be crying." ‎ ‎Elena stood up. The blanket fell. Her arms were dirty and bloody. "I need to get stronger ", she said. "My wolf is trapped. I feel heavy. How can I break free?" ‎ ‎Before Jade could answer, something strange happened. The air in the cave changed. The fire turned blue, then back to orange. Elena felt a surge of power. It was not from a pack alpha. It was something ‎ ‎The wolves in the cave got down on their knees. Jade was scared. Elena felt angry. She wanted to fight. ‎ ‎Jade said, "He is back.. He is looking for something." ‎ ‎A big man came into the cave. He was strong. Had a lot of scars. He wore a cloak with blood on it. His hair was black and wet. His eyes were gray and cold. ‎ ‎Elena felt a shock when she looked at him. This was the man from her vision. ‎ ‎The man looked at the wolves. He did not care about them. When he looked at Elena, he stopped. The air between them felt like it was on fire. Elena felt a heat inside her. Her wolf woke up. Roared. ‎ ‎The man's jaw was tight. He smelled Elena's scent. "Who is this?" he asked. ‎ ‎Jade said, "She is Elena Ravenswood. She is from the Bloodmoon Pack. I found her at the border." ‎ ‎The man came closer to Elena. He was very big and strong. "Elena Ravenswood ", he said. "You are the girl Julian threw away." ‎ ‎Elena looked at him. She was not scared. "And who are you?" she asked. ‎ ‎The man smiled. "I am Tristan Steele. I used to be a commander. Now I am a ghost." ‎ ‎Tristan threw an animal head on the ground. The wolves were scared. ‎ ‎Tristan said, "The Bloodmoon Pack thinks they are safe.. They are not. They threw me away because I was too strong. They threw you away because they thought you were weak." ‎ ‎He came closer to Elena. "I do not see a weak girl. I see a person who can help me." ‎ ‎Elena said, "I am not anyone's tool." ‎ ‎Tristan said, "Good. Because a tool can be broken. A friend can help me tear down the packs that hurt us." ‎ ‎Tristan took out a dagger. He cut his hand. Said, "Make a pact with me, Elena. Give me your loyalty. I will help you break free. We can build a group and make the packs pay for what they did." ‎ ‎Elena looked at his hand and his eyes. She felt angry and strong. She did not want to survive. She wanted to win. ‎ ‎Elena took the dagger. Cut her hand. She pressed her hand against Tristan's. ‎ ‎When their blood mixed, a big light filled the cave. Elena felt her wolf wake up. She felt strong and free. ‎ ‎Tristan smiled. "The pact is made. We will build an empire together."
