Chapter seven ~ Alpha Duncan “Thorne, wait here!” I ordered. The night air followed me as I strode into the hospital, each step measured, dangerous. I passed the nurses’ station and one of them looked up, smiling and twisting her hair nervously. “Good evening, sir… how may I help you?” she asked. “I’m looking for a boy. He was admitted here yesterday,” I said, my voice low, controlled. “Oh, yes… I heard… an omega did some… terrible things to him. Who are you? His father?” I smirked, the corner of my lips curling. “I’m Alpha Duncan. I want to see him. To see how he’s doing.” The nurse’s eyes went wide, her cheeks flushing pink. “Oh my… gawd… Alpha Duncan? It’s really you?” I didn’t answer. I simply took the card she handed me. “Room 302,” she said, trying to regain her composure. I didn’t need directions. My presence alone demanded compliance, and I moved toward the room without another word. As I reached 302, I froze for a moment at the sound of the boy’s voice. “I love you too, Mom,” he said into the phone. I pushed the door open without hesitation. The silence that followed hit him like a punch. “Tell your mom I love her too,” I said, my voice a low growl. He froze completely, eyes widening in fear. “Alpha Duncan…” I stepped closer, the air around me thick with authority, with the power that came with being an Alpha. My eyes scanned him, cold and assessing. Every inch of him screamed guilt, fear… and weakness. “You thought you could touch my mate,” I said, letting the words hang in the room like a blade. “Do you know who I am?” He swallowed hard. “Y‑Yes… sir… Alpha Duncan…” His voice trembled. “Good,” I said, my tone deadly calm. I moved in a flash, gripping him and driving my claws into his side just enough to make the pain unbearable. He screamed, his body jerking against the bed. “This will teach you a lesson, boy.” I leaned closer, my eyes burning into his. “Now tell me—why did you do it? You found her attractive?” “No… no, sir,” he cried, his voice breaking. “I don’t know what came over me.” I tightened my grip slightly, making him gasp. “Imagine if you had actually r***d her,” I said coldly. “I’m sorry,” he sobbed. “I had no idea she was your mate.” “That,” I said, releasing him slowly, “is the only reason you’re still alive.” I straightened and fixed him with a warning look that froze him in place. “If you survive this, you will never speak of her. You will disappear from her life completely. If I hear otherwise—if you run or tell a soul—I will find you.” He nodded frantically. “Yes, sir.” I turned to leave and headed back to the car, before we drove into the night. ~iris The morning light was soft, brushing across the room as I sat on the edge of the bed. My body ached from the events of yesterday, from fear, from adrenaline, from the relief of being free. Duncan had left, only leaving a note : stay. Eat. Rest. I will return soon.” I didn't need to read it twice , his voice, his presence, his bond-, they lingered in the room like a warm pulse i could feel in my chest. The mansion was quiet, too quiet and I was painfully aware that no one knew I was here. Eunice, the police, even Alice - they all thought I was locked up. I had a moment of guilt, thinking of alice. I wondered what she thought, what she was doing right now , how worried she was. But I couldn't risk calling her - not yet. The bond throbbed softly against my pulse. Duncan presence lingered even though he wasnt here. I could feel his calm, his insistence that I be safe, his quiet claim over me. It made me both nervous and strangely comforted. After hours of lying on the bed, starring at the ceiling and listening to the silence, I finally stood up. Staying still made my thought louder, darker. I need to move to see where I'm hiding for the one week of my life. I slipped on a robe and stepped out of the room. The hallway was long and elegant, lined with framed portraits and dim golden lights. Wolves stared back at me from some of the paintings—former Alphas, I guessed. Power clung to the walls. I walked slowly, barefoot, afraid my footsteps would echo too loudly. The living room was massive. Tall windows, expensive furniture, a fireplace that hadn’t been lit in years. Everything screamed control, discipline… Duncan. I moved into another corridor and nearly collided with someone. “Oh!” “I’m sorry!” a woman said quickly, bowing her head. She looked to be in her late twenties, wearing a maid’s uniform. “It’s okay,” I said softly. “I was just… looking around.” She smiled gently. “You must be the guest Alpha Duncan spoke about.” My heart skipped. “He… mentioned me?” “Yes,” she said respectfully. “He said you’re to be treated with the highest care. Anything you need, just ask.” Before I could respond, another maid appeared, then another. Their eyes held curiosity but also respect. No judgment. No questions. I nodded. “Thank you.” As I continued walking, I noticed guards stationed at almost every entrance. Strong, alert, watching everything. No one got in or out unnoticed. “Miss.” I turned. Thorne stood a few steps away, arms folded behind his back. His expression was neutral, unreadable. “Thorne,” I greeted, unsure how to act around him. “ The alpha instructed that you are free to move anywhere inside the mansion,” he said. “But for your safety, the gates remained locked.” if you need anything- food, clothes, Company, inform the staff. I hesitated.” Does … anyone know I'm here ?” “No,” he replied immediately. “ No one outside this estate.” Relief flooded me, mixed with fear. Eunice still thought I was rotting in cell. “ Thank you,” I whispered. He nodded once, then stepped aside as if guarding me with his very presence. As I returned toward the stairs, something settled in my chest. This wasnt a prison. It was a fortress. And I was being hidden. Protected. I reached the window just as familiar presence stirred in my chest - strong, commanding, unmistakable. The bond pulsed. Duncan was back.
