Following endless hours of tendon-straining effort, she’d managed to get her right leg up and over the rope tied to the metal bar above and behind her. Her efforts had left her too exhausted to care for the sweat running into her eyes and soaking her clothes. For a long time, she hung by her bound wrists, working up the strength to try to free them from the hook, but she lacked the room to move her body that far.
