Chapter Fifteen - .45 Salve
Pulling off the Stuart Highway, Ethan opened the telephone directory in his lap and folded over the bloodstained pages until he got to the veterinarian listings. Discovering a clinic outside Katherine maybe three hours away, he glanced at the towel around his arm. Blood had soaked clear through to the seat. Tossing the directory in the floor, he placed his hands at the top of the steering wheel. Sitting there a few minutes, he put the vehicle in gear and pulled onto the highway again.
Driving to the crossroads at Palmerston, he took the road south to Katherine. His arm throbbed. On the highway outside Katherine, he pulled up in front of the Katherine Veterinary Services clinic, undid the sash cord from around his arm, and pulled away the towel. Stumbling out,
