Owen POV
I had been trying since we walked through the door to buy Dylan a drink and she shot me down over and over again. I couldn't understand it, who didn't like free drinks. "Come on, let me buy this round."
"I can get it." She insisted. We had been there for almost two hours and she had been doing a pretty decent job at avoiding me. I'm not sure, because I've been craving for her attention since the moment I saw her. Everything about her is breathtaking, from her thick waves, that would look incredible wrapped around my fist, down to her fat ass and thick thighs that were begging to have my fingers dig into them. I wanted to feel all of her soft pressed against my hard. I wanted to see those f*****g curves move in every sensual way possible and if I continued down this dangerous thought path I was going to have to continue to hide behind this table even longer than I had planned.
"Scale one to ten? How independent are you?"
"Ten." She smiled and headed for the bar.
"Stubborn?"
"Eleven."
"Attracted to me?" I was finding my liquid courage.
"Nine."
"Really?" I smiled and she clenched her eyes shut, I heard her mutter something like damn, whiskey. "Well, are you going to ask me?"
"Independent?" She rolled her eyes.
"Ten"
"Stubborn?"
"Eleven." Owen waited. "Well?"
"Well, what?" She stepped in front of me and waited for the bartender.
Game on. I thought as I placed my hands on her hips, pulling her back to my chest, once I had her secured with my arm around her waist. I reached up and moved her hair away from her ear and neck. The alcohol was starting to work in my favor, I could feel it in the way she relaxed into me. "Are you going to asked me if I'm attracted to you on a scale of one to ten?" I asked, letting my lips graze against her ear.
"No, I'm not." She gently pushed my arm away and took half a step forward away from me.
"What can I get you?" The bartender smiled at Dylan.
"Two Jack and cokes, A little more jack than coke if you could please."
"Why aren't you going to ask?" I continued leaning in from behind her again.
"Because I know the answer."
"You do, do you?"
"Yeah, it's a two or three. I have a pretty face and seem like I have a great personality but that's about it, right?"
"Do you honestly think I'd be trying as hard as I have been to get your attention if it was a two or three on that scale?"
"Sure, if you're trying to win a bet." She shrugged away from me as the bartender came back with her drinks. "Thank you." She turned back to me. "Are you?"
"Attracted to you? Yes, very."
"Trying to win a bet?" Dylan ignored me and pretended that hadn't just admit that.
"Why would I?"
"I don't know, why would any other guy?"
"I'm not like most guys."
"And I'm not like most girls, it takes a hell of a lot more than a gorgeous smile, killer abs, and a pretty sexy southern drawl to earn a night with me."
"I don't want just one night, I want a few." I replied. "I want them all."
Dylan rolled her eyes and made her way through the crowd of people to find Jena on the dance floor. I found my way to Liam because I was so entranced by her that all I could do watch her. And I would spend every day for the rest of forever watching her if that's what it took to make sure that she knew I was serious about this whole thing. I know, it's only been a week since I met her and I can count on one hand how many interactions we have had since. But there is something here, something real, something that feels like forever. And I want every second of it.
Dylan's POV
"Here." I smiled and handed Jena one of the glasses.
"How's that going?" She smiled and motioned to Owen as he appeared next to Liam.
"It's not." I shrugged and shook my head. "Can you hold these?"
"Getting hot?" I nodded. "High ponytail though."
"Fine." I gathered all of my hair up and tied it tight.
"I'm not sure what you're picking up on Dyl, but that man is clearly very into you."
"I'm convinced it's a bet." I shook my head again.
"Liam says that you completely shut Owen's brain down when he saw you that first day, you know, when they tried to be good neighbors."
"Sure." I laughed, there was no humor to it. I know that Jena would never lie to me. She's too honest for that.
"Hey, can I see that for a second?"
"You have the same thing."
"Yeah, but mine taste weird. I want to see if it's just me."
"Sure." I gave her a funny look but handed my glass over anyway. As soon as it left my hand I felt a set of hands on my hips before I was being spun around. "What are you doing?" I asked looking into Owen's eyes.
"I've been trying to talk to you and you keep blowing me off." He looked like he was barely holding himself together.
"Owen, I-" I started but he cut me off.
"Dylan, I honestly do find you insanely attractive. I want to hang out with you. I want to sit in front of a fire with you having drinks." I tried to step away but he tightened his grip around my waist with his arm, my front now pinned to his. He reached up with one hand and cupped my cheek. "I am not trying to win some f*****g bet and if some asshole did that to you, It's his loss because I have never seen another woman as beautiful as you are. So, please, stop pushing me away. Stop telling me what you think I'm thinking or what you think I'm doing. Give me a chance to prove that I'm being honest."
"No, I don't know you, there for I don't trust you. Please let me go." I knew my voice was stern and my expression was harsh.
"Give me a chance to get to know you."
"No." I shook my head.
"Birthday?"
"I said no." I closed my eyes.
"May 17th." He said.
"August actually." I was confused.
"No, mine." He smiled. "My birthday is May 17th."
Realization crashed into me. We were out with him and his buddies celebrating his birthday. "Happy Birthday." I said looking anywhere but at him.
"Finish your drink and take a walk with me." He smiled and squeezed me to him.
"What about your friends? Didn't they come out for your birthday?"
"They did. But oh, well. I have other priorities."
"Why am I a priority?"
"Because I get the feeling that other than Jena, no one has made you one in a very long time."
"I'm only here for six months."
"A lot can happen in six months."
"I'm here to work. I can't have distractions."
"I won't be one." He shook his head. "I just want to get to know you, Dylan, that's all I'm asking."
"I'm sorry." I shook my head again and this time, I pushed down on his arms which fell to his sides easily. "But no."
"At least have the decency to look me in the eye and say that." My blue met his hazel. "Can you?"
"No, Owen."
"No, what? You won't take the walk with me or you can't look me in the eye and tell me no?"
"No, I won't walk with you." I turned around to face Jena and took my glass back, drinking it down quite quickly. Owen watched me for a second, gauging what my next move might be. i took Jena's hand and pulled her deeper into the crowd.
"How did it feel being held that close to perfection?" Jena smiled.
"Shut up."
"What did you think about while he held you that close to him so you didn't blush?"
"Jena, stop." I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose.
"He got to you, didn't he?" She smiled.
"Enough."
"What did he say?"
"He wants to know me and as of midnight it's his birthday. He wants me to take a walk with him, so we can talk."
"What'd you say?"
"I'm over here, dancing with you, aren't I?"
"Yeah, but-" Jena looked over, both Liam and Owen were watching them. "I don't think he's kidding. I think he's trying to figure out how to get you to listen to him."
"I am listening." I stopped dancing and heaved a deep sigh.
"But are you hearing him?"
"What does that even mean Jena?"
"What did he say, exactly?"
"It's not a bet, he's attracted to me and he wants a chance to know."
"Oh, no! How dare he say those things to you! Did you slap him?"
"I'm about to slap you."
"Easy Dylan, what's wrong? He's hot."
"Yep, he is and maybe that's what's wrong."
"No!" Jena snapped. "You do not get to do that! Charlie was a scum bag who made you truly believe you were less than you were. You may have been teased in middle school and high school for your weight, because you were a little thicker than the rest of the girls. Big f*****g deal. You owned that s**t in college! You rocked your body and you were so damn confident! f**k Charlie, and his douchebag frat brothers! They are all useless wastes of space!"
"Yeah?" I chuckled and nodded. "Feel better?"
"Yeah, actually. Do you?"
"I'm working on it." I shrugged.
"Work faster because he's coming for round two."
"Do you not take no for an answer?"
"Not when I think fear and a bullshit excuse are behind it, no."
"I'm sorry. You're right, you caught me." I shrugged my shoulders and caught him off guard. "I'm so madly in love with you that I can't wait one more moment! Take me, I'm yours." I rolled her eyes and headed back towards the bar.
