Chapter 3: Betrayal

Third person's POV

After the call with Leonard, Bash put up his very best attitude,always early to class,dress to kill,polite always wearing a smile althrough school hours, Every one was wondering what has happened does magic really happen In this part of the planet?

Is Bash Williams smiling right now?

the girls wispered amongst themselves

what happened to the poker face king Bash?

this is all so new to me

am guessing santa must have visited this planet earlier than christmas one of the girls said as they chuckled and blushed at the figure that just walked passed them taking his seat in the front row ready for the good news

The professor walked into the Hall and made his announcement, as we all know this school's culture,the best student of the year becomes my project assistant and you all know the privilledges as well as the challenges that comes with such opportunity.

I will like to congratulate and apprey all the students and the efforts they put into their academic years as well as their struggle to achieve the student of the year's records,you are all academic heroes, but as we all know the saying, for every race they must be a winner

And am out here standing before all of you ,with the power vested in me by the vice Chancellor and all the board members to officially announce the winner of the best student of the year ,whose efforts has earned him an excellent academic legacy that will be recorded in the Halls of Fame of this great University

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Winner of the best student of the year class of 2014 Leonard Williams

The crowd bursted out with shouts and claps and whistles, everyone seemed super excited, one might think they all from Leonard's fan club, the happiness was just too real which can only happen that way in rare cases

The clapping continued and everyone expected Leonard to march forward to the step and claim his badge , but there was no sign of him, soon the clapping begin to die down and the joyful noises were replaced with whispers and tension, everyone's eyes was scanning the crowd others at the professor on stage while some gave Bash a questionable look, he looked tensed, but deep down he was rather satisfied his brother didn't show up.

The tension continued and the professor was tensed, he couldn't handle the crowd and the noises, this has never happened before, no student will want to lose such golden opportunity, no one has ever missed their day of glory in the school's record,this is the first, although there is a school law that states , any winning student that refuses to show up on their day of official award and announcement without prior notice will be considered unserious and unfit for the position and the honour will thereby be passed to the second runner up automatically the rule was made to keep students focused and committed, never has such incident occurred

This incident was conflicted to the professor because deep down he knew Leonard had a high level of IQ and cognitive excellence, and he is not an unserious student, exactly the kind of brains and personality he wants to work with and he is not going to lose that

He took a strode towards the panel and he wispered something to them, the vice Chancellor nodded in agreement and he sighed in relief

He walked back to the tensed crowed and smiled at them, ladies and gentlemen please give me your attention, as we all know the school rule and law, any student that fails to appear on the day of his official announcement shall be considered unserious and the position goes automatically to the second runner up

Bash had butterflies in his stomach,his spirit was so lifted, he was just waiting to hear the words when the professor made the most hurting statement which left his world crumbling with bile of hatred running through his veins

But unfortunately we will like to defer on this case, the panel has agreed to give Mr Leonard one week of grace and claim his badge, the crowd seemed happy at this decision but Bash was in rage which was the begining of everything sour

His anger was so uncontrollable that he didn't realised when he mounted the stage standing side by side with the professor

Took the microphone from him and spoke to the crowd

Ladies and gentlemen, please give me your attention

My name is Bash Williams I know am not supposed to say this but listen up

Leonard Williams is not who you think he is,

I know the panel must be giving him a second chance thinking that he is worth it but IAM here to tell you that he is not,

Why waste any more of our time waiting for somebody who will never show up, he is not interested in the this award whatsoever ,

As we speak he is in Hawaii having fun and we are actually dressed up here to waste our damn time and cast sympathy votes ?

It felt as though the students have been hit by a tsunami tension and disappointment filled the air

Wait!

Leonard ditched his official badge for a fun trip?

That's so disappointing

I used to think so high of him you know?

How can someone whose IQ is so high act in such indecent manner

He has been deceiving us all along

How are we even sure he won this position fairly

Bash smiled at the accomplishment of his wicked deeds, and nodded satisfactorily as he continued

Right here is the record of the call he made to me

I hate to think that he brought all this people out and then went for his fun trip

I know he's my brother, but it won't be righteous of me to ignore all of this

Bash had played it all to favour him, he even went as far as editing the calls and making it sound Leonard cared less about his academic success, he deleted the part Leonard said he was staying away for his sake, so that he can be picked since the first is not available.

Although the supervisor found it difficult to believe, his panel were not giving him an easy time making the right decision.

He marched to the roaring crowd once again and announced, this has never been done although history but I will plead to make an exception,

I will be giving Mr Leonard Williams two days to present himself before the panel and give befitting explanation for this conduct, failure to do so, the badge will be passed on to the second person.

Bash's POV

Bash was already fuming with rage, he started executing evil plans in his mind, if I have to be the CEO of the Williams company, then I must not let anything or anyone stand in my way

Leonard has always been a threat to my success and this is the perfect time to eliminate him once and for all, as long as he is around, I will always come second and am not ready to accept that

Leonard has always had a soft spot for me and am going to use that against him, I have to make sure he doest make that trip down here in two days

I picked up my phone and called Leonard, hei dude, thanks for giving me the opportunity, I got the badge,

Am so excited, you hav proven to be the best brother, dad will be so proud of me

Wao! Am so happy for you bro, am picking the next flight back tumao, this calls for a celebration

I had to interrupt immediately before he ruins my plans

No bro, you dont have to, just relax and enjoy your vacation okay

But I insist, I need to celebrate with you Leonard said...

No pls don't come, am good, I dont even want to be celebrated, I didn't earn this badge

Leonard's POV

After the call with Bash I pondered on his reasons for refusing a Celebration over something he has always been dying to have, then I decided I was going to give him a surprise visit and throw him a little party

My flight landed at about 8am on Wednesday and I picked the fastest Uber to our house,as I opened the door with my keys, I found sitting on the couch playing his favorite video game, something we do at our leisure, when be saw me, his countenance changed, his face became dark, I wasn't expecting that reaction

I was expecting to be engulfed in a tight hug by my brother, or any pleasant welcome atleast

Why did you come back? He asked, I had told you I do not want any celebration

Why do you like ruining things for me

Just when I thought I had succeeded in claiming my rights, you appear out of the blue, why don't you understand simple instructions

I was dumbfounded, what have I done to you to deserve this Ill statements?

Have I offended you in anyway??

Please am sorry, I just thought I should surprise you, I thought we deserve some celebration just the two of us

It's alright, Bash responded, I just wanted you to enjoy your moment, I didn't want you risking everything for me

Were you being serious when you said just when you have succeeded in claiming your rights I showed up... What were you talking about there? I asked

It's nothing, I just overreacted

I had my doubts but I just decided to let the sleeping dog lie, after all he is my brother and we are back in good terms, he wouldn't in anywhere think evil of me.

Bash's POV

Every time iam this close to achieving my dreams, Mr good two shoes shows up to ruin my plans, but this time iam not going to let him get away with it

IAm never letting anyone destroy my chances, not even Leonard

I smirk as I feel the devil rising up within me, I had a plan, one that might be considered inhumane,

But why do I care, it is now or never,

Once this plan is hatched, there is no going back, I smiled with contentment at what am going to achieve once this Leonard disappears.
