Riley adjusted her pink miniskirt. “Ugly or not, I can still turn heads. Better to armor myself than scare anyone.”
Ethan shook his head. “Confidence is what makes a woman beautiful. Don’t hide. Show them your real self.”
“I’ll try,” Riley said, removing her sunglasses and mask. She strutted confidently toward her pink Bentley.
“Your family… rich?” Ethan asked, frowning.
“You figure it out,” Riley replied with a grin.
At school, whispers spread. “Did you see? That ugly girl brought a handsome guy! What a waste…”
Ethan ignored it. “Life’s too beautiful to get upset over gossip,” he said. But his gaze inevitably drifted toward several girls nearby.
Riley caught him. “Don’t even think about it,” she said, scolding him with her eyes. “Deduct one thousand from your pay.”
“Miss Riley… that’s harsh,” Ethan said.
“Three thousand!” she snapped. Ethan shut up immediately and followed her lead.
A group of brats approached. Riley tossed some cash. One tried to grab it, but Ethan intercepted.
“Step back,” Ethan said. “Her safety is my responsibility.”
The gang froze. Riley tugged on Ethan’s sleeve. “Thanks… they’d have hurt me without you.”
