A Mimicking Footstep

593 Words
I'm enjoying the book I had discovered, but I have a strange feeling while I was reading it. I stared at the clock and its just 3:22. I feel uneasy as if someone is staring right at me as I read at the reading table. I took a peek around this massive library, which was crammed with books. I'm quite curious as to who among them loves reading. This place smells like an empty wooden box that was never opened for a very long time. I'm confident that whoever read these novels has excellent taste. I decided to hunt around for unusual things to distract myself from my anxiety and to find more books to read. I move beyond the first shelf, but I suddenly heard footsteps trailing behind me. When I walk, it walks with me, and when I stop, it stops too. I'm concerned that if I turn around too quickly, it'll be another of those b****y eyed creatures I encountered this past few days. It's nearly dusk, and the sunlight streaming in through the window has given me an idea. I walked another shelf and the thing was still following me. I came to a halt between the shelves, where the sun light pass through. My hands began to feel cold, and I began to get goosebumps. I turned my head to the left, hoping to catch a glimpse of a shadow that would reveal who was playing games on me. Even though I'm literally in bright sunlight, everything feels cold. I quickly noticed there was no shadow behind me. I was relieved, so I quickly turned around to back to enjoying the book, but what I saw next sent shivers down my spine. I'm face to face with a monster whose lips is sewed shut with thick cotton yarn just inches from my face. Her hair was long and her eyes were pitch-black . She's dressed in a bloodstained white duster. I really want to shout, but I can't. I'm stuck in place as I watched in terror while she tilted her head in the most unhuman way. She reached for my face with her left hand, coated in blood, and gently caressed my cheek before covering my mouth. I was panting heavily and tears were streaming down my face. I'd rather drift out and wake up in the sofa again at this point, but something is keeping me awake. , I felt my heart drop, when she took the end of the yarn and carefully pulled it to open her mouth. As she pulls the yarn, blood gushes from the holes where it pierced through. “Little child..” she said in a cold lifeless tone. Suddenly everything is calm and bright. It felt like I’m at the mountain tops. I can feel the strong wind in my face and the grass beneath my bare feet. I looked around and saw a woman sitting on a swing, hanged at a huge tree. Something tells me that I should go and talk to her. I went to the tree and when I saw her face, I realized that she was the girl at the library, except now, she looks...alive. "be calm you needn't have to worry if I scared you, I'd want to say sorry Eilif's the name, I'm glad you came I won't harm, nor give hate I have to tell you something before it's too late..." I'm having doubts about this but is this the same creature I'm dealing with earlier? What is will she tell me?
