Lucifer stared down at the magnificent white palace which had been his home for the first fifteen years of his life. The entire building surrounded a beautiful garden. At its center, a massive tree reached towards the ionosphere, its branches spread wide like a woman embracing the stars.
The Emperor had planted it the day the Alliance was founded, before he'd built his palace, before he'd populated his garden. He claimed it would flourish so long as the Alliance fought to protect the light. It was always in full bloom, but never once had the tree set a single piece of fruit.
