Chapter 4

"Let me get this straight, you got pregnant after a one night stand and you don't know who the father is? " Anna questioned. "Don't put it that way Anna, I mean I know his face but I don't know his personality" Liliana said looking down in shame while fidgeting with her fingers.

"Fine, it's ok whatever you want to do with this pregnancy, just know am on your side, I left you once but am here to stay now and am never leaving you again" Anna said flashing her a smile. "thank you so much Ann. Your presence here means a lot to me at least now I have someone to talk to". Liliana said wiping a stray tear from her face. "Alright enough about me, why did you come back?". Liliana asked. "Well am here to stay and I plan on starting up my own business, I know I have a degree but I wanna be my own boss since my parent left me a lot of money before passing and I also wanted to see you" Anna said with a bright smile on her face. Liliana and Anna's friendship has been more like that of two close sisters and they love each other so much. "We weren't in touch for four years and I moved out of the old house, so how were you expecting to see me?". Liliana asked with a questioning look. Anna cleared her throat before answering, "I was going to look for your new address starting from your previous house and I was actually on my way there when I saw you coming out of that company's building". Anna explained. Liliana nodded in understanding. "It seems we were really destined to cross path again". Liliana said. "So where will you be staying at?" Liliana asked. "I'll be checking into a hotel later" Anna replied.

"Why don't you stay with me at my apartment for now until you get your own space, that way we'll be able to catch up some more" Liliana said. "Of course Lili I'll stay with you if that's what you want".

Anna said with a bright smile on her face. The two ladies returned to Liliana's apartment to settle for the night.

Liliana slept through the night and woke up to Anna's voice the next morning "wake up Lili you're going to be late on your first day of work". Liliana jolted awake and quickly got out of bed "thanks for waking me up Ann". Liliana said rushing to the bathroom. She got ready in no time and came out to the living room and was greeted by the aroma of spaghetti and meat balls coming from the kitchen, she followed the aroma to the kitchen and saw Anna dishing out food on a plait "Morning Lili, I woke up earlier to make break fast because I knew you would sleep through the night, here, dig in you're almost late" Anna said placing the plate of food on the mini dining table in the middle of the kitchen for Liliana. Liliana was happy and grateful for having Anna around, " Anna thank you so much, I don't know what I would've done if you weren't here" Liliana said before descending on the food.

"Am leaving now I'll see you later when I get back, okay?", Liliana said standing up to leave. "Alright, take care and don't over stress yourself", came Anna's reply with a smile on her face. "I won't, bye" Liliana said going out the door.

Liliana got to the company and went straight to the manager's office since it's her first day and she hasn't been given an office yet. She knocked and waited for five seconds before letting herself in.

"Good morning sir" Liliana greeted the manager who was so engrossed in his work that he didn't notice her coming in.

"Good morning Liliana, here this is an agreement papers go through it and sign where needed" the manager said handing her the papers. Liliana went through it and saw that a particular condition didn't sit well with her "hmm sir, it says here I can't quit until after two years...?" she asked. "yes" replied the manager without sparing her a glance from his work."But why?, if I may ask".This time the manager put down his paper work and looked at her with a straight face "all employees must sign this agreement before they start working here and if for some reason you want to quit before two years is over, you'll have to compensate the company with a huge sum, but if it doesn't sit well with you, you can leave " he said. "No it's fine, I was just curious, sorry I asked" she said before signing the agreement and handing it to him. "come with me, I'll show you your office", he said standing up and walking out of his office with Liliana following behind. "We're here" he said opening the door to an office, "this is your office and the president's office is on the right. I'm going to guide you through all you need to know about your job here", The manager said picking a file from the table and handing it to her, "go through this for now and meet me in my office if you have any questions" he said.

"Thank you sir". Liliana said. "You don't have to thank me and please drop the sir and just call me Alan", the manager said and worked out of the office leaving her to her work. Liliana went through the file and was done after a short while, though she didn't have any question about the file, she needed to know what next to do with the file so she headed to the manager's office. She knocked twice and waited "come in" came Alan's voice so she went in, "Mr Alan I'm done with the file you asked me to check and there's nothing wrong with the file" she said.

"Alright, I'm going to send some more files to your office for you to check and deliver them at the president's office and please make sure you don't overlook any mistake before taking it to the president's office because believe me you don't want to be at the receiving end of his wrath", the manager said with a straight face making Liliana flinch a bit. "Alright I'll be careful", Liliana said before leaving for her office.

Liliana had finished going through the files so she took them to the president's office, she knocked twice and waited before letting herself in when there was no respond. She entered the office and there was no one so she dropped the files on the table and turned to leave when her eyes happened upon a painting on the wall. It was a painting of Jake.

It seems I've been thinking so much about him lately that I'm starting to see him everywhere. She thought touching her temple with her index finger. She was still looking at the painting when a masculine voice spoke from behind "what are you doing here". She quickly turned and was shocked see the man from that night staring at her.
