The woman in black froze, her face instantly turning ugly. Before Yang Jie could explain, she gave him an "I understand" look, waved her hand, and turned away with a carefree, innocent smile. Her every move and smile was so nonchalant that Yang Jie and the woman in black couldn't muster their anger, provided that there wasn't a man standing behind Sophia Gu—a beautiful man who had somehow appeared behind her, watching the spectacle. Sophia Gu groaned softly from the impact, rubbing her nose angrily, and looked up blankly, her bright black eyes blazing with fury as she glared at the man with the flippant smile who was clinging to her waist. The man chuckled softly, his voice as melodious as a cello, "Darling, so eager to throw yourself into my arms?" A flicker of amazement flashed in Sophia Gu's eyes, her clear pupils seeming to be veiled by a thin mist as she gazed unfocusedly at the man's twitching lips. She was inwardly annoyed. Why didn't she have a cup of coffee or some other drink in her hand, even milk tea would do. That way, she could legitimately smear it on this man's expensive shirt, instead of having to kiss and rub his toes with her cheap casual shoes. She thought regretfully, "If only I were wearing high heels today!" This man was probably the kind who would die a romantic death under a peony flower; a flicker of surprise crossed his shimmering eyes, and then he smiled unusually brightly. His warm hand on her waist not only didn't let go but gave it a suggestive squeeze. Sophia Gu, of course, wouldn't be polite. She suddenly thrust her knee upwards. An inauspicious start! Without any apparent movement, the man simply sandwiched her long legs between his own. To onlookers, the position appeared extremely suggestive, as if Sophia Gu were openly flirting with him in public. Yang Jie, furious, blushed and reached out to pull her away, but the man gracefully evaded him, drawing Sophia Gu into his embrace. Sophia Gu struggled slightly, but the man didn't force her. His lips brushed against her cheek, then released her in a suggestive manner. Seeing the passersby stopping around, Sophia Gu quickly tugged at the man's sleeve, pleading, "Brother, Yang Jie was just out shopping with Auntie, he didn't cheat on me, so don't be angry!" Ignoring the woman in black's livid face, she urged Yang Jie with a naive, anxious, and uncertain expression, "Yang Jie, tell brother quickly, she's your aunt, right?" The woman in black clung tightly to Yang Jie's arm, raising her chubby chin and haughtily scoffing, "Jie, tell her who I am?" Adrian watched the woman's performance with amusement, but unfortunately, Yang Jie wasn't playing by her script. He looked at the woman with difficulty, then at the woman in black in his arms, hesitant. Sophia Gu wore a hurt expression, covered her mouth, gave him a sad glance, and quickly turned and ran away, her back view resolute! Once she was out of sight, she lowered her hand, her face showing no trace of sadness. Perhaps realizing how pointless her actions had been, her mood suddenly plummeted. When Sophia Gu clocked out at the company, only Gu Yue remained. She wasn't surprised; this man, who looked as thin as a girl, was a notorious workaholic. While packing up, she noticed the trash bag at her feet had been changed. A little surprised, she looked up to ask, her eyes meeting Gu Yue's. Gu Yue smiled at her, then lowered his head to continue working. "You changed it? Thank you!" Sophia Gu asked as she packed up, "Aren't you leaving?" "Yeah, working overtime!" His voice was clear and gentle, androgynous. "The company is so lucky to have you here!" "It's alright!" he said, lowering his head shyly. Sophia Gu was surprised by Gu Yue's shyness, realizing he wasn't as cold and aloof as he usually seemed. Thinking that he had not only taken out her trash but also changed the trash bag, she frowned. She didn't like to do favors without reason. She shrugged, not thinking much of it, and went back to her apartment. She could always repay him later. Today seemed particularly eventful. Only a few days after her birthday, this random stranger had come to visit again. It seemed Derek Gu's prediction was correct; he really was looking for a wife in The Gu Family. And judging by the intensity of the "tough girl's" enthusiasm, she was the obvious choice. "Grandpa! Second Sister!" Sophia Gu respectfully greeted the rarely gentle-looking Old Master Gu and the smiling Vivian, her expression blank. Old Master Gu merely nodded slightly. Vivian's expression was indifferent, seemingly quite pleased with Sophia Gu's respect. Lucien Lu, seeing no change in Sophia Gu's expression, still politely nodded with a slight smile: "Ninth Miss." Sophia Gu nodded, about to go upstairs, when Old Master Gu suddenly said solemnly, "Little Ninth, come and sit down too!" "Oh," she replied almost without hesitation, her expression blank. Contrary to expectations, she didn't eagerly rush over and stand between them like a wooden stake. Instead, under their watchful eyes, she slowly went upstairs to change her clothes. The Gu family, grandfather and grandson, chatted amiably with Lucien Lu. Grandpa Gu, of course, was a key figure; Lucien Lu was likely to inherit the Lu family business, and Vivian, whom he had been grooming, possessed exceptional insight. Naturally, the conversation inevitably turned to the recent collaboration between the two families. Sophia Gu couldn't understand any of this, so she sat quietly, remaining as invisible as ever. Lucien Lu was undeniably an outstanding man. Sitting alongside Grandpa Gu, his presence was in no way inferior; a smile remained on his lips, and he appeared completely composed. No wonder Vivian had taken a liking to him. Grandpa Gu doted on Vivian, and he would often reminisce about her childhood. Vivian, unusually, blushed and playfully scolded him, creating a harmonious atmosphere that felt like a family gathering. Sophia Gu, however, remained an outsider, observing coldly. Lucien Lu leaned back in his carved chair, his gaze suddenly shifting to Sophia Gu. He asked with a smile, "Where is Ninth Miss?" The laughter abruptly stopped, followed by an eerie silence. Sophia Gu suddenly felt like laughing. It was a miracle that her grandfather and second sister even remembered her; how could they possibly remember her childhood? "I can't do anything!" she answered decisively. The silence continued, except for Lucien Lu, whose thin lips curved into a smile. "Ninth Miss is truly blessed!" "Yes!" Sophia Gu replied without a trace of shame. "My sisters are all capable; all I have to do is be happy." She spoke with utmost seriousness, as if it were truly her heart. Vivian paused slightly, glancing at him before looking away. For the first time, Old Master Gu seriously examined this unassuming granddaughter. Unlike her sisters, she possessed a rare clarity in The Gu Family, her eyes clear and bright, like a babbling brook in a winter mountain stream, slightly cool in tone.
