Chapter 7

702 Words
ZEPHRY Having the little wolf in my pack felt like a blessing from the moon goddess and also like a curse. I have been avoided by everyone, including my mother, not because I was the Alpha, but because of my curse. Everyone I touch burns from the inside. Although it made me more powerful than my folks, it also made me the loneliest Alpha that ever existed. The moment I laid my eyes on her, I heard my wolf scream MINE. To crown it all, she beared the Obsidian mark, which ran from the back of her neck, down to her spine. She was the only one that was immune to my touch. This has happened like never. I watched her eyes widen and heard her heart race while her lips curved out the word ‘Mate.’ I would have the same expression if I was told that I was mated to a cursed and the deadliest Alpha Lycan that ever existed. “You wished to be spared, don’t you?” I asked slowly. She nodded almost immediately with tears flowing down her cheeks. “My mercy comes with a price. Are you willing to pay the price, little wolf?” I asked, circling her slowly like a predator and scanning every inch of her body. She gulped loudly and nodded again. “Speak up!” I thundered, causing her to flinch. “I…I am willing to pay the price, Alpha,” her voice cracked. “Even when it means becoming my wife?” I didn’t speak this time; it was my wolf. My breath caught in my throat for the first time and my heart skipped a beat as I anticipated for an answer. Who would want to get married to a monster? The silence in the court was long before her voice finally came. “Wi…Wife?” she stammered. “Yes, my wife,” I replied, trying not to get furious. She did not say a word, just staring at me but not into my eyes. I watched her expression shift from confused to terrified. “Answer me, or I will slit your throat myself with the same knife you came with,” I growled. “Please don’t,” she blurted. “I will be your wife.” My wolf howled inside me to express his happiness. I asked one of the guards to prepare my soon-to-be wife’s chamber. “The ceremony will be held on the next full moon. You need time to heal,” I said, and exited the court. While walking back to my chambers, I heard footsteps approaching me. It was no other person than my little sister, Veylana. I tried to ignore her and pretend I didn’t know she was the one. “Can I have a word with you, brother?” I let out a sigh and stopped in my tracks. “What is it this time?” I asked, turning to face her. She was standing a few steps away from me. Everyone does. “That was no way to treat your mate,” she said with disgust written all over her face. “Is that all?” I asked, irritated. “She has been through a lot and doesn’t deserve the humiliation.” “And who made you the judge of that!” I hollered, hoping to scare her, but she stood her ground. “Just keeping you on track. She needs a mate and not an Alpha.” I let out a resignation sigh before walking away. I hate it when she is always right. I wondered what she went through and why Enzo sent her to my territory knowing that I could be the end of her life. She had bruises all over her body, especially her back. She must have been whipped cruelly. My wolf growled as the image of her bruises and how pale she appeared flashed through my mind. No one dares treat our mate like that. Just then, a knock came through the door of my chamber, bringing me back to reality. “What is it?” I growled. “I think we have a problem, Alpha. It’s about the one who bears your mark.”
