Her breath caught. She focused on me hard, as if trying to see if I was speaking the truth. Of course I was. Didn't she know that I saw her as an exquisite goddess? Not to be worshipped. But certainly to be admired. Sometimes I admired her so much, my heart felt like it would explode. After a long minute of searching my eyes, she smiled at me.
"Did you know I was pregnant when you met me?" she asked.
Shaking my head, I answered, "No, not for a couple months actually."
She frowned. "And that didn't... turn you away?" she asked, almost sounding incredulous.
With a vigorous shake of my head, I whispered an immediate response, "No. Not even a little. When I found out you were pregnant... and how the father was not in your life... I... my feelings for you got even stronger. I wanted to help
