The Manor

"Guy!! I can't believe you're going out with Lola Adeniyi! Omo, you get liver o( Dude! You're brave)" Felix says to me, as we play a game of football on the PlayStation.

"Yeah, I am. You need to have seen her, man. She's changed a lot. I couldn't even recognize her." I reply, dribbling him on the game. We'd be playing for hours and if beaten him steadily. Still got it, hehe.

"Mayo...you sure say she no go do surgery? This one wey you know remember her?( Are you sure she didn't have surgery done? Since you couldn't even recognize her?)" He says, not even looking away from the screen.

It was serious business..

"Nah...at least I don't think so. It doesn't look like she did." I say, scrunching my brows, like I did when I was focused on something.

"Felix, she didn't have surgery done. She's absolutely beautiful. She's short and cute and she smelled amazing when I hugged her."

"When you did what?! Mayowa! Heheeee...I never thought I would ever hear those words come out of your mouth regarding Lola. And you even hugged her? She definitely had surgery done then." He says, making me angry. I didn't like the way he was speaking about her.

"What the hell are you talking about, guy? Why wouldn't I compliment her? Besides she really looked amazing. What's wrong if I hugged her?"

Felix lets out a loud laugh which was very annoying since I don't know what's so funny.

"Out of your mouth, Mayo? Since when did you find Lola Adeniyi, beautiful? You didn't think all that back in school. In fact, I thought at one point, that you must have hated her." He says, and then yells in victory as he scores a goal. His nonsense talk was distracting me.

"What do you mean? I didn't hate her." I say, refuting his claim.

"Nah bro, I'm pretty sure you had a thing against that girl. Considering all the things we did to her.." He says, trailing off and I frown at the screen.

"We were kids back then, that was just teasing." I say, gritting my teeth and getting angrier at every word coming out of Felix's mouth.

"Right, teasing. Abeg, who wan decieve?(Oh please, who do you think you're talking to?) You can lie to yourself but not me, bro." He says, before scoring another goal.

I toss the pad on the table and storm out of my living room.

"No bro! I was just about to beat you! Where are you going? Mayo! Mayowa!" He says, calling after me but I just slam the door.

Damn it!

He's ruined my mood.

I pick up my phone on the side table and go to i********: to search for Lola. I find her account but I can't see any of her pictures. Just pictures of her family and friends and places she'd been and lots and lots of food. I wonder why she doesn't have even one picture of herself.

For some reason, that makes me want to see her even more tonight.

I should probably get her a gift or something. I call my sister to ask her to send over a bottle of perfume from her new collection. She's being her body self again and asking who it's for but I don't say anything.

Dami didn't understand the word 'privacy'. If I knew my sister, she'd find out soon enough, but for now, I'll keep that little piece of information to myself.

It arrives thirty minutes later and it cost a heck of a lot more than I thought it would but it was perfect and absolutely worth it.

It came in a dark emerald leather pack apart from the box. It reminded me of Lola precisely.

She's going to love it!

I should probably get ready. Wouldn't want to keep a lady waiting.

Later that evening,

The Manor, 6:50pm

"What can I get you, sir?" A waiter asks, after handing me the menu.

"I'll just have a water for now, thank you." I say.

I decided to come a few minutes earlier so that I could make sure that Lola would be comfortable.

I'm answering a few messages on my phone when from my peripheral vision, I see someone walk in the door.

It's Lola. She looks around a little and finally sees me and I'm struck by just how beautiful she looks. I stand and she waves a dainty hand and walks over to me with a smile. I don't realize I'm holding my breath until she says,

"Hi..."
